  1. Poxy useless rip off garages. Get home and the wife tells me the MOT was passed.....but they replaced the coil pack due to a misfire. £150. At least she got the old part back. One corroded contact. Bit of a clean up and a £10 rebuild kit and it will be fine. £50 buys a good used item. Next time...I am going to take care of it. And them.

This is why I take our cars to the garage and make sure they ask before serious outlay. A misfire so bad it got there fine, you'd been using it fine............. Nice of them to make the decision for you!

I actually only take my car to the garage if i can't fix it myself, hehe. OBD2 readers aren't expensive anymore, and most things you can fix/change by yourself with a couple of tools and the internet as manual.

But i absolutely agree with Smoothy: if you take it to a garage, make sure they go through the steps with you before they take action. Takes longer, but will always(!) save money. Even if you just let them diagnose it, and then fix it yourself.

Yeah, they really shouldn't do extra work and land you with the bill.

Guess you know not to go there again.
