The usual Tamiya mix of stylish and irrelevant lunacy

I think the Yaris looks hideous IMO.

The Merc is tempting, been looking at that for a while.

Bought the 58638 kit over a year ago and only built up the chassis. Shell, decals, parts, wheels and tyres are still new in the box so that could be on the cards.

Also, the possible reason we havn't or never will see an Escort Cosworth RE RE could be seen in the RE RE Blackfoot.

The original Blackfoot had 'Ford' on the rear of the shell and the front of the shell, the RE RE doesn't. Also, the 'ford oval' logos (decals) supplied with the RE RE Blackfoot are not ford logos as they were on the original, the RE RE are blue ovals with 'tamiya' text in them.

You've only got to compare old and new boxart.

Original Blackfoot boxart clearly shows FORD BLACKFOOT, Ford on the bonnet and Ford logos.

RE RE Blackfoot is just BLACKFOOT, no Ford across the bonnet.

If there is a licensing issue with Ford, can you imagine an Escort or Focus RE RE without any Ford markings?

You won't see a re re escort anytime soon!

This all stems from when BMW took over mini....once BMW owned the mini brand they upped the licensing fee to extortionate heights....

Then the attempted to sue tamiya over backdated licence & breeching advertisement rights stipulated in a contract, tamiya disagreed and pulled all BMW/mini licensed products.

I imagine the ford deal is the same.....its all about the Benjamin's:D

I think this is probably why we are seeing tamiya re re kits that they needed no licence for, manta rey, hot shot etc etc or ones thee already have licensing for...Toyota, MB etc etc

A post I saw over on the tamiya forums (taken from an nz static modelling site) sums it up

Tamiya was the pioneering company for paying licence fees in order to get manufacturer's drawings and full access to vehicles and, later, aircraft. It will be basing its decision to continue paying licence fees on a cost/benefit ratio according to the volume of sales it is achieving. As demand for the respective kits picks up after a period of being out of production it will pay the appropriate licence fees to re-release those kits. What started out as a sincere gesture with licence fees in the beginning is now a significant revenue raiser for a company's intellectual property. You kind of wish the modelling companies could charge an advertising or promotional fee back to the manufacturers for promoting their products, even though a lot of those products are long out of production.

What's with all the bits hanging off the FMA chassis'? Must be more than just simple bumpers?

Are they designed to race in some hard-walled miniature race track, or something?

Yes just that! They don't have controls you pop them on the track and off they go

Tamiya can eat a brick this year. Demanding no sale prices the only incentive to buying tamiya bar the bodyshell.

Thats what they sell now a days. Bodyshells with a free TT01 chassis lol.
