Making holes in bodyshells.

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I'm nes to the forum and the hobby.

I just crashed my brother 's car and had to get him a new bodyshell. The holes are in the wrong place so I need to make new ones.

What do you folk use to make holes without splitting the shell ?

Thanks.

i tend to use a reamer for that but they arnt that cheap and possibly not worth getting if its a one time use

you can drill it but be carefull as the shell can crack or split

I too bought a reamer but didn’t spend enough to get a good one.
Now I just use a small drill bit and then open it up with a stepped drill bit, it has the diameters marked so can’t go too far wrong and it leaves a fairly clean edge that needs very minimal cleanup. Very handy for a host of other jobs too.
