Hi,

What you’ve down with your build is great - car looks awesome. I’m a bit of a newbie returning to the hobby and torn between a Tenacity or Lasernut. On paper the Tenacity seems to win hands down on reliability, but I do love the look of the Lasernut and fits with the kind of running I’d imagine doing.

I’m pretty handy with tools, so have considered just fixing all the issues the car has right away, rather than waiting for this to break and claiming on the warranty. I’m curious how much it cost you to go ahead and fix all these issue up front?

Knowing what you know now after your build, would you still recommend the car?

Cheers, Graeme

Hi Graeme,

Thanks, I would recommend it, but as you have mentioned earlier it does have its issues, but these can be overcome, I really like the way it looks, that’s a big part of it for me, I would have preferred this as a kit, but it wasn’t available, so I stripped it right down, checked the diffs and gearboxes before I had even run it, and it has yet to have a proper run, I figured I may as well get it right from the beginning.

The driveshafts breaking seemed to be a mixture of a bad batch of shafts and the steering endpoints not being adjusted.

i think it also depends on what sort of running you want to do, mine won’t be doing any big jumps, skate ramps etc, I don’t think this is strong enough for that sort of driving.

I have some Vitavon Driveshafts and axles coming which are much stronger.

I believe there is a V2 coming out that possibly addresses the issues, but not sure if that’s the case or not.

If you are handy with tools, it’s not difficult, and there is lots of info out there and to be fair there are plenty of owners who haven’t had issues.

Thanks for the info. Time to make a decision - Tenacity or Lasernut. As you say, i do prefer the lasernut and like you - I’d rather build a kit (given lockdown), but they seem few and far between these days; Element Gatekeeper i was looking at, but don’t want a crawler. Thanks again. Graeme

Fitted my new Vitavon parts, these are really nicely made, drive shafts are a good bit chunkier and steering blocks and hub carriers have bigger bearings, so should be much stronger, also a little front brace too.

Thank you, I’m all in on this one, a few more bits to do and some more upgrades on their way, I could probably buy a real one by now 😀

Made up some more lights using some 3mm LEDs, I then installed them in the dash gauges, I used the holes that were for draining the excess resin from when they were printed, the Monster Rev counter lights up nicely, the gauge pod not so much, I may have to drill some tiny holes behind the stickers.

the sides are off for another job that is ongoing.

Oh, it will get used, just enjoying working on it for now, with home schooling and work, time is scarce, but I bought this to drive, won’t be bashed on skateparks and ramps but will get used.

Decided to make the side grills/vents a bit more realistic. Cut away the plastic and fitted some stainless steel mesh behind.

quite please with how it looks.
