More than a bullet hole or two.

Oh How Original

Recommended Posts

I thought some of you might enjoy some of these pictures I took while having a walk around this evening.

I was nerding out completely, wishing I had a 500mm lens.

Maybe some inspiration for you chaps doing tank builds, you don't get much more genuine than this for bullet holes and rust!

You never know what's lurking in the grass :P

I wonder how long that's been there since being ejected.

Not 100% sure what this is exactly, it was about the size of an average flask, there was quite a few, some had been stood on and flattened, this one looked perfect, aside from missing something, if anyone can enlighten me?

One personnel carrier, I'm not sure this one will drive again, but we might see it on a future episode of Wheeler Dealers, you just never know!

And finally, the thing I really went to see.

You know what I said about things lurking in the grass? ;)

Not sure what tank it is, other than a bit beyond it's best!

Oh geez, I think that's a Chieftain! :scared:

I know the engines were useless, but this still makes me sad!

Look at the design of the turret in this pic. Same as what you've photographed:

And this rear end is the same as the photos you've taken:

Definitely a Chieftain :(

Some nice pics.  The personnel carrier is a Stolly, more commonly known as the Stalwart.  Useless on road thanks to it's diffs, hence i've not bit the bullet yet, but one of my favourite peices of ex uk forces equipment.

Yes, they could get up to heady 6 knots !!. They were dreadful vehicles on hard surfaces, tarmac, concrete etc, they had weird and wonderful ‘true’ 6 wheel drive, all wheels spinning at the same speed !!.

Sad to see them rotten yes, but they are still being used in a manner of speaking.

A much more noble fate than being crushed or stripped for parts.

People can still enjoy seeing them and people still train with them.

Apparently it's excellent to go and watch them being changed, because whatever replaces them will likely have no holes in it and look fresh.

I'd like to see that happen but it won't be for a while yet as these are still good for target practice and educational purposes.
