Tamiya Manta Ray #47367 Build

Recommended Posts

That's Bag A done.

Rear end pretty much assembled.

Optional part 50529 was purchased to replace the alloy idel and drive gear, these can be seen on the left, which will be replaced with the parts on the right.

To my surprise the kit was included with steel dogbones and not the usual plastic end bones as per previous Manta Ray releases.

Guess I won't be needing these now

As always excellent work :good:

its a real shame that the chassis is still not brick pack friendly.

are you planing on a alloy steering kit? Biggest issue I had running that chassis :banghead:

Thanks Gaz

I initially added up all the essential hop ups long before the kit arrived, it worked out more than the kit itself lol

One of the items I left off the list was the steering kit to keep the cost down. I will get one ordered but for the time being the stock one will have to do. It does seem to be one of the bigger issues with this chassis though.

You do appear to be building my Manta Ray - all the upgrades are the same as mine, in fact the only difference is mines on brushless. Even the same radio and servo......

However mine has been altered to run on a 'brick pack'. I'm using a low profile shorty lipo like this which fits inside the centre part of the chassis and is held in by the top deck. It required cutting a few small holes for the leads but otherwise is much neater and clearer than even the stock battery layout.

I havn't made the move to lipo yet   it's a struggle to get one of my Nimh batteries in there, the Orion rocket pack, very tight fit.

Hi, i got my manta ray last week and its almost done, going to be running a mild 2 brushless with the ballrace kit fitted. Where did you get the upgrade bits from and why did you swop to all plastic gears? thanks

Motor mount.

You'll definitley need one of these for a brushless motor, the stock platic one tends to warp and split under load.

The prop shaft and joints were left over from a 2017 Top Force, or you can buy the Yeah Racing or GPM equivelent.

Tamiya even sell an upgrade kit comprising the motor mount and prop shaft specifically for the Manta Ray.

Wheel hex's.

The stock alloy idle and drive gear supplied in the kit isn't ideal, it tends to wear quickly and turn to a mushy paste. It is ideal to replace these 2 parts with plastic gears.

Parts on the left will be replaced with parts on the right.

Hop that helps and have fun with the build :good:

Top Force is a league ahead in comparison to the Manta Ray,  Had it out a few times and hoping to get them both out the weekend.
