I don't see the need to explain myself when i say that the XMaxx doesn't offer what i want in an RC, at least stock. That's just my opinion, if you like yours, all good. On 8s it might, but then there's the small problem of it being £1400, and that's not looking at repairs and maintenance afterwards. Neither am i willing nor capable of dropping that on an RC, hehe.

Not really the thread for it here though (but feel free to PM me if needed).

Put it this way. I'm in the market for a MT, i'm looking at the XXL2e and this one. Why, apart from the looks, would i go for the XL?

edit: again, i actually thought that they'd improved on the design to accommodate the torque/power of the tork system.

Fact is 6s, wether we like to admit it or not, is too much in the real world for a 1/8th MT, and honestly the best/most useable 1/8th MT was the Savage Flux Alphastar 2350 which was 4s only, ironically that was the most useable and perhaps most fun 1/8th.

The Losi has a few flaws always has allways will but only in its brushless configurations  as it just gets to much power to the drive train .. Diff casings !!! they crack loosen the cup instide destroy the outer ring and pinion and eat the outdrives cup, the slipper can't handle the brushlees power so it lets go all the time .. is there a solution  no are parts tricky to find this side of the pond yes and it's a mix of imperial ad metric would I personally ever buy another not if you paid me with the weight of the truck in gold ..

But hey your right you want an MT that offers good value for money has good parts support dosen't require you to remortgage your house to correct and factory flaws isn't expensive is the right size to have fun with, needs to be fast, strong and reliable

Which is what most guys require when looking for an RC, not really much to ask for all things considered

Now here's the thing if and I mean if you ever find one and the Losi or the savage or the Hyper MT or the X Maxx and the others guys have metioned  aren't it as they all have flaws and need X amount spent ... Please will you let me know as I'd love one my self ;)

Oh i know, i went through 113 pages of owners, following their modifications and breakages. Next to like 30 videos on the tube. 6s will break things. But from what i've read, it's the slipper, and not the diffs itself but the pins in them that break (and obviously, with those, the whole diff). Many people who asked "what should i do out of the box" get told to immediately get replacement pins, ironically, i think it's the XL pins that get recommended, hehe.

And by no means do i think that one should get away with not spending a dime after purchase to make it stronger. If the XL would be the same price as the Losi, i wouldn't have complained either. But after all the parts, especially if you don't go by discounted price but RRP (it's then £650 stock).. Nah. Yes, parts break on other trucks. But other trucks are considerably less expensive. That's btw not exclusively this truck where i'd complain, Arrma and Traxxas do the same. Traxxas is all over the place, some models more than others, arrma "duped" people with the Nero and the Nero Big Rock (the Big Rock having the parts that the normal Nero needs - £150 for upgrade).

Keep in mind, the Savage XL still is a 1/8th truck, with 1/8 electrics and mechanics, even if it has an extended chassis. That's why it's nowhere near worth £650. Or, £750 after work.

I have no problem admitting that 6s is too much. I wouldn't drive 6s exclusively on any RC. Not necessarily because it's "unusable power", but because 6s WILL break things. That doesn't mean i wouldn't do it, just basically as a "cherry" in a session.

Sidenote, since you seem to be an honest fella, lets say i ever get my hands on an XMaxx, stock. What is the minimum that needs to be done to be able to bash without fearing that stuff breaks after the first backflip? Not a trick question, just interest in case a used one pops up around the neighbourhood.

edit: isn't there a revised version somewhere that people talk about? Due to release at some point?

edit2: february, and it's basically the old one plus upgrade kit stock. For the price of the old one, roughly. Now.. That's interesting.

Ok. I will be honest. Here is a list of known issues with the X. By known, these are what are posted on forums:

The stock ESC isnt capable enough and had some fires (sell the stocker and buy a Max 6 and the outlay is around £50).

Diff gears strip easily ( theres Traxxas HD ones avaliable, and Rock Passions. Traxxas also have new ones out soon)

shock shafts are weak (Dhawk make new ones that are thicker but not cheap)

early ones had issues with the wheels cracking

Cvd pins snap (new one has thicker pins)

Now, theyre what are classed as the common issues. However, Ive only experienced broken shock shafts (3 times. Now I run DHawks). Ive alsp broke two upper arms, but this has always been when Ive snapped a shock shaft. If I had no access to the internet id have not known there weere any other issues! I sold my stock ESC and bought the Max 6 after a few days on forum advice. Ive ran my truck alot on 6s and 3 times on 8s and im still on the stock diff gears, where as others are on their 4th set within the same period of time sticking to 6s. It also needs gearing up to wake it up, but thats £3-£7.

As you can see its far from perfect.... but Im a bit more leniant to accept its got issues when its only been out a year or so, with a V2 and upgrade kit coming out. The Savage however is nearly 15 years old, having so many issues is inescuseable. Yes everything on the X Maxx is more money, but it is a bigger scale so thats acceptable imo...

Reagrding the new one/Power up. In the US the kit is $475 plus $175 if you send them back your old ESC, so $299. For that you get:

7795-8s-Upgrade-Kit-Group-B_m.jpg

https://traxxas.com/products/parts/8s-power-up

Which gives you better diff gears and CVD's, a new ESC and other goodies. TBH for $299 its a decent price. However, someone like me already has a new ESC, and has sold his old one. So Id pay the full $475 and then have to sell either my Max 6 ESC or the new Traxxas one.

Then we realise we are in the UK, and Traxxas/Logic dont really care about us, and charge us £619 for the kit (with a £200 surcharge for the ESC, so £419 vs $299..... That rules me out personally.

Then there is a V2 Xmaxx coming in Feb, with all those upgrades AND a new lower KV motor. That retails for $899 in the US similar to the Xmaxx V1. However, over here the V2 is rumoured to me over £1000.... So Im doing my own 8s covnersion in stages. Mydoddy has the 8s kit and more experience than me, but thats it in a nutshell.

Its a considerably bigger investment than a 1/8th MT, but, to me, its justified as its a considerably bigger truck....

Again, i didn't ask to point out the flaws of the XMaxx. I asked because i'm a dwerp, and haven't ruled it out entirely. The V2 actually looks like it's adressing what i'm worried about. As i understand it, it's the old XMaxx with the upgrade kit installed from factory, no? Now, you seem to be easy on yours (no stripped diffs, hehe), but generally, how are the shocks holding up? It's a lot of truck that wants to be cushioned.

edit: i'll take this to PM, don't know how the rules are here for derailing threads. It's still the Savage XL thread. ^^

See my 2nd reply regarding the new truck.

I run DHAWK shock Shafts on my Xmaxx alround which were not far off $100.

That said, I seem to have a habit of breaking shocks. I broke my stock Savage Flux shocks and replaced them with the Alloy BigBore set.... which are near as damnit $100 too..

Don't buy an X Maxx buy the LST and go have some fun :good:

X Maxx's are over priced your wife will never stand for it and you'll be hugely disappointed

I kinda get the impression what ever rtr you buy you want be happy to be honest which only leads to one answer build your own ;)

Well it might be, although it's in line with other 1/5th scale cars, like 5ts etc. The V2 does look interesting and not necessarily overpriced (especially not compared to the old XMaxx plus Upgrade Kit).

And in regards to building my own: i wish i could. Don't have 3d printer, laser cutter or any other tools necessary to do it though - could make it out of wood. Would be a nice drama once an ESC catches fire. But i guess there's a reason why wooden MTs didn't catch up so far.

The savage xl would be overpriced if the brushless revo and Xmaxx didn't exist  but they do, so at £599 it's bang on the money.

old proven technology does not mean it's outdated and bad!

The whole scene about hop-ups is also a personal choice, I use my cars and when they break I repair/upgrade, other people upgrade because that's there choice and they get enjoyment out of it

Personally think people need to forget the Xmaxx when talking about the Savage/Revo/XXL. Its a different breed entirely. ITs not worth bringing up in the discussion. It could be £1789. Its irrelevant to the discussion, you might as well bring up 1/10th Electric Formula One Cars. In my opinion obvioulsy.

Hyper MT: £399
Losi XXL: £499
Flux XL: £599

As Ive said in PMs, I can honestly say that the Flux isnt 33% better than the the Hyper MT as the pricing suggests. Id have a hard time time convincing someone not to buy a Hyper MT at that money....
