capri-boy
Yeeeha, the Outlaw Brushless has just left its rooster tail as the throttle is nailed. Well you might not have a Californian desert on your doorstep, but you can pretend! Loosely based on the powerful Ultra 4 buggies that take up the challenge of racing through the US’ west coast deserts, the Outlaw is the perfect mix of RTR entry level fun with a bit of scale realism thrown in to boot. Under the semi-scale tubular roll cage, body panels and cockpit are some new and established features. Blue anodised oil filled aluminium shock absorbers handle the corners. The front suspension assembly is the same as FTX stablemates the Carnage and Bugsta trucks with fully adjustable settings, universal driveshafts, turnbuckles and a heavy-duty metal geared differential. Moving back, the moulded chassis supports the centrally positioned sealed shaft drivetrain, steering servo, motor and receiver box. Semi-scale trailing arm rear suspension sets the Outlaw apart from other off road buggies in the FTX range. This long travel suspension, with huge articulation is what full size U4 buggies use to tackle the uneven desert surface. With drive to the rear axle assembly via a telescopic sliding driveshaft, along with multi-position shock absorber mounting points, the Outlaw can handle some of the roughest terrain with its all terrain super-soft tyres. FTX has chosen Etronix for the brushless system with their waterproof 60Amp Photon 2.1W speed control and 2950kv 4-pole motor. Coupled with the Voltz 3250mAH LiPo battery and you will have all the power you need to unleash the Outlaw.FTX Outlaw U4 Buggy Features: 99% Ready to run Etronix EX2 Sport 2.4ghz radio Etronix 2.1W Waterproof 60 Amp ESC Etronix 2950kv Brushless motor Etronix 3kg waterproof steering servo Voltz 3250mah 7.4v 20c LiPo Hard cased batt Voltz LiPo charge sack Etronix PowerPal Pocket Balance Charger Pre-painted cage style body panels Tubular style roll cage with spare wheel & tyre Internal driver cockpit Moulded tub chassis Sealed transmission 4wd shaft drive Trailing arm rear link suspension Receiver box Lightweight high impact arms Aluminium big bore oil filled adjustable shocks Gearbox metal crown & pinion gear Front universal driveshafts Adjustable turnbuckles Fully adjustable suspension including, droop, camber, toe-in, wheelbase etc Chassis accepts NiMh or LiPo battery Wide range of option parts available Spec Check: Scale Size: 1/10th Length: 505mm Width: 320mm Height: 240mm Wheelbase: 328mm Tyre Diameter: 135mm Tyre Width: 55mm Gear Ratio: 11.2:1 Drive: 4WD SOURCE View full news article

Not released yet Jim, due around the 16th afaik. I've shifted some rainy day spares etc so have funds sat waiting. I've been subtlety hinting for a review model Alas it doesn't look like one's forthcoming I can however pick one up from the local Hobbystore on release day if all else fails, that is unless something shiny crops up in the next 10 days.
Bigjimknickers
I wonder if the BL version has different internals to the brushed? I've got a spare BL combo here, may get my lad the brushed version.

Modelsport however have lots of the spares already listed, and it seems there's no difference at all bar the electrics. This makes some sense, as so far as I know the vantage / bugsta / carnage is the same - @chewbacca will prob know for certain.

All I did to my Hooligan was strip it, rebuild it with rs bearings and fill the diffs with oil, then bolted in an 80a/3000kv combo. It's all good.
tomr
Looks like Helion are bringing out the same truck http://helion-rc.com/rockRiderBR/
Bigjimknickers
I really like this, kinda looks like a dirt cheap yeti?
atom3624
I quite like this truck - 'though looks like it may be a little unstable - perhaps wider wheels required somewhere down the line ... or just a lower profile tyre. Al.

Bigjimknickers
Let's see a review before casting judgement Mr Noj! I'm liking this, but I really want a kit for xmas, mrs knickers has offered me a Tamiya hotshot so far, but could I push her to an Axial yeti kit...
Nitroholic
Not sure about those shock towers... Look awfully spindly to take the shock loads and support the battery.

What to take from that video? even ignoring the slow mo it doesn't look like they we're either giving it much beans or it had much to give. Pleased to see them showing it on the skate park and doing little jumps though - as a purchaser you could argue that it's intended to do such things because of it. Shocks look soft, skid plate for the rear axle looks like it'll be needed.
Noj
Why did they give it to Gordon Ramsey?? Not hugely impressive, a bl punt up the bum probably wouldn't hurt, however, the FTX is cheap for what you're buying into, Helion are surely going to have to price in accordance, IF they release it in the UK. The Intrusion isn't being released in the UK, as the FTX has appeared first, will Helion risk a coinciding release of, essentially, an identical rig? atom3624
It was way too slow - no power slides with that! Probably just give it grip roll if power increased but does look interesting. Al.

t2boats
Makes sense really, price difference between the brushed and brushless models is almost £90, can buy a combo for say approx £40 - easily change it all out and voila.. A brushless outlaw for £170 as apposed to £220. I did that with the Viper and Hooilgan rally car.
capri-boy
FTX are now listing option parts on their website, I'm still concerned about having to buy new motor mounts to change pinions. There's no pictures of the spares yet, however the pic below shows the outlaw b/l motor, and what must be part of the stock motor mount. t2boats
Slight update - marionville models emailed saying they were out of stock (even though it said they were available ) expected in on Dec 12th, so I went onto M'sport and they're likely to be in this Wednesday. Cancelled my original order and had the refund from Marionville and promptly ordered one (brushed version) from Otley. Looking forward to when that arrives. I've got a 550 3800kv motor sat here doing nothing which'll find a nice home in the Outlaw but for the time being I'm wondering what lipo the stock brushed esc could handle, definatley 2S, 3s perhaps?? Tried googling the esc but can't really find much info on them.

t2boats
Excellent stuff! It'll be good a balance of choice with a can of that speed, can be easily controllable on either 2 or 3S
