It certainly is! I've geared it fairly low for the off-road track (19t pinion) - and it notched up 49mph according to the GPS along the back straight of the track 😵 it's brutal. It's the short amount of time it takes to get there which impresses me. I've always been a fan of rallycross buggies, their weight and stance is superb for traction.

The Hyper 7's are great buggies. I converted mine to brushless from Nitro, wayyyy better. Its spec is: centre spider diff, 4068 2650kv Toro motor, Toro 150A esc, TowerPro 20kg servo with a UBEC, and 4S up its backside! Consequently - it shifts.. 😎

The Hobao Hyper 7 PBS buggy found its way underneath that Subaru shell, odd looking shell as it was proportioned for 1/8 rallycross buggies, but to be fair it did look great going around the track. As for the buggy itself, it was its usual reliable performance on the off-road track, wheels never ground out within the arches of the shell which was a bonus too. I then ended up switching to a DHK Hunter SCT chassis under the scooby shell for a while as we were indoors more often than not when racing. As Jack R' says above, the Hobao Hyper GT is terrific car, very solid and stable, there's a few at our club. Would need work doing on it though for it be used off-road as ground clearance isn't great.

I've used two different treads on this model aswell as the stocks. I found the stock tyres really lacked any grip, which made things interesting on the track. So the search began and even though they're cheap I stumbled across and plumbed for these: Front Rear Tires Wheels 12mm Hex for Redcat HSP Traxxas 1/10 Off Road Buggy Cars | eBay They are extremely grippy off-road on our outdoor track, and surprisingly work really well on the indoor tarmac track too, so I've kind of stuck with those really. This set below are very soft in comparison, grippy at first but will begin to wear on the outer edges prompting a bit more control, brings a grin to my face though. Not posted on here for a long time.. Had several RC's over the last year or so. I'm still running this amongst other rally cars in the class at the club (before the 'vid came along to ruin the party), but hopefully the club will reopen in the coming month or so. The Porsche is still running perfectly well. It's still running a 3660 3800kv motor on 3S through a 120A esc, absolutely love it, it looks so good too. Not really looked into changing the shocks on it, they've performed well so far, added a few collar adjusters on the shock bodies but that's it. Bought some fresh tyres for it and now on the hunt for yet more carisma wheels...

I bought one of these in 2019, an enjoyable build. Seems very solid. Body is yellow with black bonnet. Fitted some ali wheels and different tyres (never used the stock ones), oil filled shocks all round rather than the pogo sticks, full bearing set, 13T brushed motor with 1060 esc. It runs really well too. We have a TT02 rally class at the club so it's ran amongst those. It looks great zipping around the track! (indoors tarmac), not taken it off-road, and probably won't.

Nope, not heard of that one, but will google it now! I’ve converted another Outlaw to an SCT, the only stumbling block was finding body posts to suit..

@DartmoorTrails yeah it's a 48dp 5mm pinion, couldn't find one to "fit" inside the gearbox, so had to settle for thus one. It was too long so I had to turn it down making it shorter, works well and not chewed any spurs at all.

@QRC Apex Models seem to be the only place I've found that sell the set of 4 wheels. I've had a few sets now and fitted offroad tyres, I like the look of them. Really am enjoying this car, it's a keeper that's for sure! @tolk83 I've not really looked into suspension changes, it copes well on the indoor tarmac track, slight lean to it but it helps the realism of the shell, and it eats up the offroad track with the jump easily.

@hamradioguy Thanks Mark! You had yours running lately? Had mine out for a blast last weekend, it ran so well, and the custom rear role bar is spot on, doesn't wave that front right hand wheel now You still interested in a set of panels?

I find them great, they're going to balloon doing high speeds as they're a soft tyre designed for off-road, so the moment some speed is in demand they'll deform as can be seen in the video's I've made. I'm sticking with them anyway as they grip so well and conform to the terrain I use the car on. I think they look good too. Anyone's choice really to what suits them

2.2" 12mm hex will slot straight on! But be careful how deep the hex is on the wheels you decide to buy, if they're too deep they'll ground out against the axle. I've had to fit a set of 7mm hex's to keep the rim away from the axle, but then you may run out of thread on the exposed driveshaft if you go too far...

Yes totally agree! I was aiming for the black set at first and was going to use the polished ali 2.2" set as an alternative for my Ascender, but once I saw them fitted I've really liked their look. All that's left now is to add some oil to the rear diff and trim the tails off the rear role bar, then it's video time!

Spent a little while finishing off the shell this afternoon, I’ve more or less sealed off the electrics inside to stop any unwanted mess getting in. The panels are simply made from 5mm Foamex, cut to fit the cage and zip-tied and glued in place. For the time being the front black panels over the shocks look a little crude, will be fitting yellow foamex to those soon with some curve to them, but for the time being they’ll help keep the dirt out! Also fitted an LED light set with ch3 switch and 7mm ali hex hubs!

Check the little grub screw on the drive cup which attaches to the diff, might be just come loose. I've had this on several other models over the years.

Yep, it makes quite a nice jump up in top speed. Though I fitted this when I converted it to Brushless, and run 3S, so it still has rapid acceleration. Undoubtedly if I were to fit a 17t pinion it would accelerate a little quicker, but top end will suffer.

I’ve only ever ran in brushed motors, as for Brushless I’ve just run them at pace straight away! None have failed yet over the years..

@Ollykamakazi Tip - also take care when you remove the small allen screws for gaining access to the gearbox: the heads can strip. It's best that when you offer up the allen key into the screw it has a good purchase within the head, hopefully won't strip then. Push down slightly when you unscrew. I fitted a complete set of stainless screws to mine after experiencing that after removing the first bolt not long after I bought it. Took some digging to remove it. I was very careful after that removing the rest, then replaced them!

@Ollykamakazi few things you can look at before ripping it apart: 1. look at the rear prop shaft going to the axle, has either end popped out of the drive? 2. raise one end off the floor with the other axle still in contact with the ground, and turn both wheels you're holding up, together at the same time in the same direction, for ex': holding the rear axle up and rotating both wheels forwards, the front wheels should also rotate forwards pulling the car along the floor (there's no centre diff in these cars). 3. remove each wheel and check the 12mm plastic hex drives are not stripped Or, open the gearbox casing and check to see how more slim line the spur gear is... Check the grub screw in the pinion gear hasn't backed off. Hope you find the problem!

Mine goes well on our outdoor track, but that’s worn grass, down to the roots in most places. And I also fit it with more substantial knobbly tyres, grip is great. I put a short vid up on this thread. Fitted the 3660 3800kv motor this morning, with a 13t 5mm pinion. New rear body post (I dropped it without the body ) and just a general screw check around the car. Glue a new set of tyres on to the M48S rims as spares and it’s good to go! edit: and a set of ali 7mm hex’s

@NOFX I use a Robinson Racing 48dp 23t 5mm pinion, there was plenty on eBay when I last looked! The ali motor mount is a must...

Cheers FIMS! I love the look of them, red and gold wheels are a nice match I think. the ball diff came with a spring to help set things up, it’s worked a treat. My last use of a ball diff was on a Schumacher ProCat which I raced in the early 90’s - didn’t have a spring for tension, just bolted together and was a complete pain. I think when I restore the ProCat soon I’ll look into getting a long bolt and fit a spring to it.

Added a MiPball diff and LED light kit with a ch3 switch to my Tamiya Monster Beetle this morning. And they work too - WOOHOO! Nice and easy, one click on my ch3 button on the controller and lights come on, one more click and they go off - ace! The beetle is only running a 2080kv 3650 brushless motor, and after quite a good number of 2S packs through it the diff has finally started clicking. So I thought best to upgrade, it’s simple enough to do aswell. Expecting to see duff gears inside the diff I was pleasantly surprised to see no damage at all. Too much flex in the plastic gears within by the looks of it and one will hop a tooth every now n then. Anyway, it’s solid now with the new diff! May try a 3000kv motor which I had from the Carisma M48S 959..
