Lipo charger, what's good?

I spent £90 and got 2× 120W chargers with touch screens (Aimple and acurate chargers) even got a 350W PSU in for that price.

For £60-100 you can get a decent chargeing setup on hobby king from UK wharehouse.

If you need more power get a single 300W reactor...they do one with a PSU built in but IMO better to buy DC chargers so you can use at the field / replace the psu / get a quality unit.

80W wont go very far...And I did not want to biy again in 6 mounth so thought spending just a timy bit more worth it...FYI if you already have a PSU the charger was only £26 EA.

B6 is still a bargain choice.

It has limitations, in that it's only 50W max power, and you soon find that limits what you can do. If you are only charging single packs of 2 or 3S ... then it;s fine. More than that...and it's in trouble. Charging a 3s ( 11.1V ) pack requires 12-13V and at 5A, a 50W charger would need to manage 60W output....so what actually happens is it charges at less than 5A.

When you get into better chargers, they need a seperate power supply  .... which puts up the prices. I have converted an old PC power supply which means I have a 12V supply with 500W of power. Would comfortably power half a dozen B6's requirements. Just need a better charger now :)

For any charger purchase:

  • Watts = Volts x Amps
  • higher the balancing power (mah) the better (200 is std 300 is prefered higher even better)
  • An accurate balancing system (check reviews and tests)
  • PSU (if applicable) should have at least 20% more power (watts) than the charger.
  • Read up on series vs parallel charging if u intend on using 1 port for multiple packs.

Hope that helps and yeah the imax (ensure it's an original with the correct hollogram on the back) is still the cheapest option.

Graupner do budget friendly options with more power too ;)

If you plan on charging 2 or even 3 batteries in the future in parallel or even series then don't waste money on something you will change later. Isn't much more £ than an 80w system for nearly 4 times the power.

Get one of these:

or

With one of these psu's:

Also, if a 150w charger is purchased and you need a psu most bricks only go up to 7A 84w. There is an alternative, get a xbox 360 brick and hack the connector! Power available is as follows:

The one I bought has no logo on the back, I think it's a fake :(

haven't tested it yet, worried it might burn the house down or something

Do first charge outside just in case. If it doesn't burn first time out it should be o.k. I generally charge in the middle of garage on concrete floor.

Might not be the best charger but the Bluetooth aspect is nice...

A charger with bluetooth, seen it all now! Is it actually useful?

Been using a fake B6 for ages with no issues. I just binned the horrid Chinese plug for the power supply.

I don;t charge in the house, but do it in the shed anyway....and NEVER EVER leave the thing unattended whatever charger you use.

I follow the same principle too, reassured by what you've said. No problem with it overcharging batteries or anything like that?

mm both my 2s and 3s are 5000mah :/

Well, now you realize you now need 2 chargers going flat out 50w, then you'll realize you need 2 more batts, then you need 2 more chargers!! so now spent the same amount as you would have getting a 300-400w + psu and the small chargers are copies to boot.

Dump the cheapo and get a 250-300w charger + psu, put the batts in series and charge as 5s. When you get 2 more batts do the same again and that charger will charge both 5s sets together in the same amount of time. I can draw you a quick wiring diagram if you want, the balance line needs to be done a certain way for this.

This is the jobbie for some multi pack charging: PSU:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__82549__TURNIGY_540W_Dual_Output_Switching_Power_Supply_UK_Plug_UK_Warehouse_.html

Accompanied with 2 of these: Chargers:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__78382__Turnigy_Reaktor_250W_10A_1_6S_Balance_Charger_UK_Warehouse_.html

You will be able to charge 4 x4s 7000mah packs at true 1C in one shot or 2 packs at 2C

Also you could do 4x 5s 6000mah or 4x 6s 5000mah at just below 1C

Cost will be arond £150 but you won't regret the investment :)

The reason I'd go for the 2 chargers instead of the dual version is it actually works out about £22 less if you buy the 2 singles and power wise there is only 50 watts difference per channel which wouldn't matter as the psu will be close to capacity :)
