Philxj4L
With the sale of the Jeep, an rc of some sort was on the cards. After much searching a Wraith kit seemed to come high on search results, so that got the vote. Coming form a mechanical/engineering background, 'build it right, build it once' was a priority. More so as due to MS, my fine motor skills are, at best, ok, at worst, non existent. I had a bit of help as a friend works for one of the UKs major rc importer/distributor. As they didn't deal with Axial, so they got the order for power & control end of things. A phone call to them had things ordered. Planet 5ch radio Powertech 4450mAh LiPo Losi Xcelorin 25.5T brushless, sensored motor Matched Xcelorin crawler ESC The motor & ESC had a 50% off deal, items where ordered around 2.30pm and arrived before lunch next day. The Wraith kit was ordered from ebay, along with what upgrades I wanted as a 'start point' for the build. As things started arriving, I rapidly realised what I'd done, and that was, in effect, rendered the kit surplus to requirements ! Asiatees/topcad billet upper & lower arms, 105mm billet piggyback coil overs, billet skid plate. 2keys (Aus) billet cyclone bead locks, Billet gearbox. Integy spur gear case/cover & diff covers, s/s driveshafts, billet AR60 axles running wet diffs. Steel exo cage with ally panels. I've used very little from the original kit, that list stands at, tyres, receiver/ESC mount, gearbox internals, battery tray and rear quarter body panels. Not a lot. With so many upgrade parts from different suppliers, a mock up seemed prudent to check clearances, so some of the original kit was used to allow the mock up. The only real issue was clearances on the steering links and the insides of the wheels. First plan was remove and flip the steering knuckles to allow use of the longer steering horns. This worked, but killed the Ackerman angle on the steering. Time for plan B. That came in the form of a +3mm drive hex set. Enough words, some pics. Had to pull the rear diff and flip the bevel gear, and carrier as they'd been set up identically, so where rotating counter to each other. +3mm hex set gave just enough clearance It's now running, and down to the tidying and finishing.
Oh How Original
I'm not normally a fan of colourful builds but I think that looks awesome. Also... Kind of pointless buying a kit and not using any of it that's the wonderful world of RC though... Guess you've got plenty of spares or something to build up and run stock. Build it once, built it right, is a good method to enter most things with, probably not RC though being as something will eventually break anyway. Be interesting to see what exactly is left of the kit

The Dark Knight
Looks a good build, interested to hear how you get on with that brushless set-up. Not keen on the bright green cage but everybody is different.
ghazghul
Nice build, I have a similar brushless setup in a crawler but with a 13.5t on 3s. Mine tends to free wheel away a bit on descents, would be interested to know if the higher turn motor behaves better.
NOFX
Love the green cage mate . looks like it'll be fun . Sods law about the diff being backwards. I put a diff in my t maxx the wrong way up. Drove for miles for a bash, then stood there confused as it just wheelspan in the same place :/
Zombi
Also liking the green cage, nice one.
Philxj4L
Thanks for the comments. I'm sure I'll break something. tbh, I wasn't sure about the cage myself once I'd ordered it, but as soon as I sat it in place I was sold. the motor ESC set up does freewheel, even on the flat. Im goin to program in a bit of brake with the 'quick card' I'd prefare a bit less than 60% as a starter, but I really don't want the hassle of diggin out the laptop and setting it all up just for less brake. The Dark Knight
I've been running a brushless set-up in my SCX10 since I bought it. A Hobbywing Justock esc with Much More 21.5t brushless motor, I'll be running a Vampire 21.5t brushless motor with a high torque rotor in my new build. I've been very happy with the set-up and the esc is easy to change settings on with the programme car.
Philxj4L
Mounted the KCHilites lightbar and recovery points today, and sold the remaining wraith kit to a guy who runs a JK bodied sc10.
Oh How Original
Have you got a link to those wheels? And the cage please? Got to say, it doesn't look terribly 'pretty' but it does look pretty bad! ( in a good way ) I'm rather liking this, look forward to seeing it dirty and scratched
Philxj4L
Tidying the wiring will be sorted near the end, it's a plate of spaghetti just now. Have my eye on a spawn cockpit to help loose that. Here's the links. Bead locks http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400703301898?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Cage http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151485084747?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The cage comes with 4 spotlight buckets and led light kit.

ghazghul
Are you running the esc with crawler firmware? I got used to the free wheeling but had a few tumbles when the drag brake engaged the moment I got off the throttle.
The Dark Knight
That's a nice light bar, have you wired it up? Are you running it off of a separate battery? Regarding the winch, have you gone for the wired or wireless? That's the same winch I'd like to get with wireless control.
Philxj4L
Are you running the esc with crawler firmware? I got used to the free wheeling but had a few tumbles when the drag brake engaged the moment I got off the throttle. Yeah, and that was why I'd prefare starting with about 5-10% brake, may just leave it as is for now. Starting to look a bit more like something I own now Fee some low power thru just to check they worked Edited February 20, 2015 by Philxj4L

The mate (who works for Cenrury UK) will be dealing with the lights & winch. Most likely will be on a separate power suply, with the bars thru ch5, winch will probably be on a switch rather than thru the TX. The roof mounted bar is from RC World, the other is a KCHilites bar from RC4WD, around the same price, but the fittings on the rc world bar seems better than the KC bar. Turns out RC World is a popular name for hobby stores could you link me the light bar you got please
Philxj4L
Got a bit bored today, so got the solder out so I could patch a 9v feed thrus the bars. I'll get some photos once it's dark. Your wraith Looks almost as good as the jaffa cakes Does look awesome though. I don't know why I look on this forum I just get jealous. Thanks, funny enough, I'm the same. I've seen some blinding 'scratch built' jobs on a U.S. forum too. Mate, I've tried to find 'RC world' to look at the light bar... Philxj4L
Eventually managed to get out of the house today, and got the wraith running. This has brought a couple of things up. 1) new hi torque servo & BEC 2) need more speed ! Now for the 'thicky' question. What's the lowest cost/most effective method of achieving point 2 ? At present it has a Losi 21.5t crawler motor (brushkess sensored) with a 2 cell 4400mAh 33c battery. New motor or 3 cell LiPo, and can I get a 3 the same size as the 2 ? ghazghul
I've never had a lack of torque from the 13.5T version of the motor, but it is geared pretty (very) low and on 3S.
