HPI BAJA 5B OIL LEAK

TimS

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm running an hpi Baja 5b and have just replaced the stock exhaust with a clone version of the SS tuned exhaust.

I took it out for a run and found oil leaking from between the cylinder head and the header pipe.

I know I fitted the gasket, so my question is whether this is in any way normal with the SS tuned pipe (I did not have this issue with the stock exhaust), does it effect the performance in any way if I just leave it as it is etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tim.

Hiya,

Thanks for your replies.

I used one of the gaskets that came with the exhaust, which was exactly like the stock one I took out.

From what your saying, I guess the only way forward is to replace it.

Regards,

Tim.

The exhaust header bolts need to be tightened right up. Probably more torque needed than 99% of the rest of the kit. The tiniest of air gaps will mess up your tuning, introduce bogging and leak oil on your brakes ;-)

Oh and I went from the SS pipe to a clone Dominator (it also leaked first run until I cranked the bolts down some more) and the SS pipe is loud but average performance. For

Thanks darski-rc, I suspect you're right and the bolts need tightening - I just didn't want to admit it to myself and take everything apart to do it!

Interesting what you say about the clone dom pipe though................

Are copper gaskets no good ?

Honestly bud, no they seem to require more pressure in order to keep a good seal and that normally isn't the kind of pressure you would want to put on the item it is sealing.

I'm sure we will get people on here disagreeing with me but from experience I found they always leak.

Guilty as charged will swap mine at weekend, thats probably where the oil is coming from thought it was head gasket, you learn something new every day, thanks for advice.
