£100k would buy a used formula Renault or similar with spares ^_^ that id much rather have  would easily do quater mile fast enough, plus be epic on track days

LOL @ how much of an Idiot you are!

Cerb, Im guessing the GTR in question is still pretty good in the Twisty Bits, ITs not like its a stripped out Drag car, its not just a drag car. 1/4 miles are not its purpose, Its just a way of saying how quick it is in laymens terms. It is not a drag car, its a fast car, which happens to do a fairly fast quarter of a mile. IF He wanted it for drags, I'm sure he could strip out all of that plush interior, fit slicks and run it to its full tune on race gas(1200bhp) and easily be in the low 8's, but its not the purpose of it.

IMO a car with full interior that can be used daily, and happens to run a 9 second quarter, and more than likely handle brilliantly too, is pretty impressive.

I'm sure in its mild mapped mode, it will lap the Nurburgring quicker than stock

People spend thousands and thousands to shave 10ths of a second on the quarter of a mile times. He will do reliable low 9's on road legal tyres on optimax fuel and then drive home. I believe stock was circa 11 seconds, so he has shaved over a second and half off the stock time, and maintained reliability.

The difference between an 11 second car and a 10.5 second car is astonishing, let alone an 11 second and a 9 second car.

The fact he can drive to the strip, fill up on the way there, do some blistering times and drive home is a fantastic achievement.

Most 9 second cars get trailered there, put on some slicks, fill up with race fuel, do 5 runs get back on the trailer and go home for a rebuild.

He isnt a tuning company, why would he want to push the limits of his engine, just to say he is at 1200bhp? The difference between his spec and the 1200bhp spec is probabaly minimal, but he has gone for more reliability. He can leave that to the tuning companies, out to prove their products and push the boundries for advertising. In the mean time, he has a reliable road car that is possibly faster than 99% of cars on the road today! This is still one of the highest powered GTR's ever created. The GTR is still new, people are still fiddling with them, and no one knows what they are fully capable of. Considering this car was said to be "untuneable" I find it quite funny there are several running round with double stock power, within around a year of release lol!

Cerb I believe you had a big power MR2, did that have various maps/boost profiles? Seems a great idea to me, as you can still maintain a modicome of reliability and economy!

I think you guys are under estimating the achievement here...

Oh and shock, a thread where Badger hates....

I agree, its a pretty remarkable achievement.

Wonder what its actually like on a track.

while im truly amazed at the technology of all the skylines and gtr`s and i would be more than happy with 1000bhp.

its would only be like driving one on gran turismo on a ps3 etc. all the power is distributed by computers so even the crappest of drivers could get it round a track without crashing, so, why bother.

as for the porsches, my sister has a 911sc on a 83 a reg, driven it. more recently drove a 911 turbo that was 3 year old, all i can say is waste of time and money!!

some of the very best "drivers" cars are basic, still the best super car ever made is the ferrari f40, no fancy computers just a pair of huge turbos and fat tyres. saying that nearly all the ferraris are balanced with enough power to scare most and give a real driving experience. plus there all perfect!!:whistling::whistling:

at the moment lamborghini has the best balance of technology and feel in a car, look amazing too.

but again, each to there own, if the guy who owns the nissan is chuffed to bits with it, good on him!! not my cup of tea but thats what makes us special. :good::good::good:

You cannot be serious. We had a 911 SC in the 80s-90's. It was an attrocious car. Compared to even a 996 Turbo (2001) it was clear that the technology has improved the car ten fold.

Semi agree about Lambo (although I know someone with a 05 Gallardo, and the interior is far too similar to an Audi A3 for my liking (I know it uses A8 bits not A3, hence similar), But they are loaded with technology still, buttons to raise the bumper etc.

Fact is, Technology makes a car better. A Racing car is designed to be fast as possible, and technology allows this. Sure, it may take away from the experience, but its sole purpose is going as fast as possible.

I sorta echo what you say about the F40, never been one, but everyone seems to say how RAW and involved they are.

Lotus Exiges are about as close to a normal car with as muc htech removed as possible though!

The first one is a Nissan Stagea. Basically a Skyline estate. It is 4wd using GTR running gear. Engine is an RB25 DET Neo. Straight 6 Cyl single turbo. I've done some mods on it myself, last Dyno was 371 BHP.

The second one is an R34 GTT RWD which I fitted genuine GTR panels to.

Last one was my 400 BHP R33 GTR.

I do all the work on them myself except for paint.

All I can say is that when I have been driving them, I don't feel like I'm driving a PS3, but then I don't have a PS3 to compare !

Each to their own, but I enjoy the ability and security of the well known Skyline 4wd system. It means that I can drive quickly and in safety in almost all conditions.

I really can't compare it to the likes of Ferraris and Lambos because I've never driven them. I have driven and worked on 911's and thought they were garbage in both respects, but that's just my opinion :-) .
