As much as I dislike there business model, I understand they now have a big influence on the hobby, So other companies have a tendency to follow there trends, And Kit form is a trend that the hobby should have never gravitated away from.

Putting together a Tamiya Hornet with my Dad over 5 nights is one of only 2 or 3 memories I can vividly remember, Still to this day I can see him looking through the manual, Seeing that little picture of the tube of grease dotted about, And saying 'If I have to use glue we'er not building it'.

Hopefully more will follow in the not to distant future.

100% backing kits, most RTRs have crap electronics so you'll end up changing them anyway.

Definitely agree. Super durable basher. Glad to see Traxxas releasing kits when the kit market at the moment is so dry 👍

Likewise, the Tamiya Grasshoper was the first Kit I Built with my dad, just a great sense of achievement as a kid (and adult), I have been away from the hobby, and was surprised at the amount of Ready to Run models out there, I always thought once you got past the cheap Argos style rc’s then it was kits all the way.

This is great news! I brought a 2wd Slash a couple of weeks ago as I'd always fancied one but it has been blatantly commandeered by my daughter who has taken much more of a shine to it than her own FTX. Its worked out well though as she's now always asking if we can go out with the cars (3 times this week already!). The Slash is a brilliant platform for beginners like her or people like me who have had RC's for 20 odd years.

I'll be buying one of these kits for sure and I've only got one kid so I might even get to keep this one!

At least as a kit you can select the upgrade you want and add them during assembly instead of tearing down a made car.

It's probably slightly more expensive to sell it as a kit but they should have done this a decade ago.

I agree, kits are the way forward and in my opinion core for this hobby so people learn, understand and appreciate their models - especially for those new to the hobby.

More RTRs mean more Amazon style customers thinking they can just return it if it breaks.

Exactly. People buy RTRs thinking they'll never have to work on them or mend them. So when they stop working they end up sitting in the loft for a decade or so. People who buy kits want to learn about how it works and they enjoy working on it. So their RCs usually be in much better condition meaning they may stay in the hobby longer.

always good to see more kits about like others have said massive part of the hobby is building and nothing worst than stripping a rc down to add hopups at the beginning :(

When I first got into rc, so many years ago, kits were the only option other than cheap toys. I learnt so much, such a great experience and even shaped my career choices and interests. Kits all the way for me.

Hold my hands up, well done Traxxas.

It's listed at $220 from Traxxas, so $20 more than the prebuilt basic version - so i'd expect a similar difference in UK pricing - plus a tin or two of paint of course
