    FTX MAULER 4X4 ROCK CRAWLER 1:10 READY-TO-RUN

FTX MAULER 4X4 ROCK CRAWLER BRUSHED 1:10 READY-TO-RUN

Hit the rough stuff in style with the Mauler from FTX. This frame chassis rock crawler is the ideal choice for tackling rocky, harsh off road terrain. Based on a full size frame buggy, the mauler features a moulded nylon roll cage with body panels and a two-seat interior just like the real thing. Access is simple to chassis internals via the front-hinged mount.

The specially programmed speed control features instant drag brake and super slow linear drive. Combined with the 4wd locked transmission and high torque gearing the combination provides super slow control when climbing or descending steep inclines.

Tall 2.2”, high profile, super-size, and super-soft all terrain block tyres with memory foam provide fantastic traction and drive on the most testing of rocky surfaces. The heavy-duty steel multi-link suspension provides exceptional articulation, which can be finely tuned via a series of mounting positions for the shock absorbers, links and chassis plates providing a multitude of angles and different wheelbases. Even battery and speed control can be relocated front or rear for custom tuning.

Hit the trails, climb the rocks and go exploring with the Mauler.

I'll be starting a thread on it next weekend (or shortly afterwards) when I get mine.

Savox servo and Losi brushless crawler motor from the spare parts box sitting ready for it. :D

If that's scx10 sized. The body should suit a monster slash pretty well. I hope the bodies are in line with rrp.  If bodies are clear no prints lol. It looks like a good rc for sure. Very basic in areas puny looking too but looks great should be durable being slowish.

Great new products making it to market - budget rigs like this open up the hobby to new people who'd otherwise be put off by more established players in the £250 plus kit territory and if the pricing's right should help to keep customers off the one off (wltoys etc) specials.

Body is painted but a clear shell is being released as well. 350mm wheelbase so it's a decent size and like the fact it takes a standard 540 so motor upgrades are easy.

I'm not going to be doing much to mine other than fit a better servo and motor. Looked at the price of alloy bits and just too expensive.

Though I don't own one, FTX really seem to be on top of their game this year :good:

It's bigger than a Scout and has bigger tyres and seems to have a lower centre of gravity so should be more capable. Axles do look stronger as well.

Lmao, if this was branded traxxas it would had some right hammer

as ive said before, it's a scout with a half-arsed chassis thrown at it, take the front and rear sections off and it's a scout.

another nice touch is they still left the scout axle skid mounts on the axles, 3 big bits of plastic on each axle to get caught up on.

body looks cheap and flimsy, it will have cheap and nasty electrics fitted.

only bit I do like is the tyres, look quite grippy.

and yeah ftx did great with the outback and outlaw but this whiffs more like the first ftx crawler, (the Spyder) which was is and always just crap.

these are of course my own opinions, based on the fact I've had lots of first hand experience in the decade or so I've been into "scalers" but hey, what do I know???? :whistling::good:

Edit* nearly forgot to mention all the lovely Phillips hardware

Half tempted. Stick a Brushless combo in it and some Sand Paddles and it's a cheap FOFFer.

But then, I have other priorities these days.

No holds barred review coming up. :D

Will it be a good budget crawler or not? Expect it will perform reasonably well.

You gonna do anything to it before running or just blast it straight out of the box?

Test it first right out of the box then BL :D

I'm expecting the servo to be the weak point but have a spare Savox 1210SG that will sort things out. The Losi sensored crawler motor is built for torque not speed so should be a good match for a crawler.

I can see the huge wide hexes being a problem, with a nasty scrub radius.  Also means long stub axles (weak) with lots of bearing load.  I've never had much luck with grub screw instead of pin driven hexes.

I thought with the better axles on the new scale trucks the Scout axles had finally died, it seems not!  Expect the diff lockers to fail with brushless unless they've changed them to metal.

At least it looks better than the Scout which always was way too tall.

I love the look of it and I think the axle extenders are a good thing. My scout had a terrible turning circle untill I put 12mm extenders on it for and scx10. Much better now. I am considering ordering one of these or waiting for the body and just run it on the scout. Think I am in line for a new RC as it's my birthday next Monday........hmmmmmm.

What makes the Maulers electrics bad but the Outlaws good?

The Mauler esc/RX is passable but a 1060 Quicrun will give much better performance. Of course a separate RX will be needed..Chassis is great and the best part of it. Very strong and properly adjustable. Way stronger than the flimsy Axial SCX10 one.Axles are not that bad and perfectly usable. You could always upgrade to stronger axles if you wanted to but not urgent.

Yes it’s not perfect but is great value for money and can easily be upgraded.

Thats understandable until you figure in that the ftx chassis is a tvp type chassis and not a ladder chassis like the Axial, traxxas, carisma offerings which will all flex.

also, the mauler is a 2.2” rig,  scx10 is 1.9” which put the mauler into the wraith/bomber category and the plastic cage is more than enough.

as I’ve posted times before, the Maulers is not a scale chassis in any way, shape or form. It’s a maverick scout tvp chassis with extenders fitted.

and I had to lol at the fact it still has a combined esc/receiver on something that big

not trying to be offensive @johninderby but the mauler and scx10 aren’t really comparable....

Class wise certainly more comparable with the Wraith and for less than half the price........

The chassis plates are not the same as the maverick either (not saying that's good or bad, just pointing out they are definitely different)

Apologies, the chassis looks more like a losi comp/night crawler with extenders slapped on.

erm, here we go, (lynch mob will be along shortly) in my humble opinion, yes it does fit into the wraith class and yes half the price, but looking at both in the pics and for real, I have to say that the mauler is half the car the wraith is.

dont get me wrong, we all want stuff cheap but not at the sake ok quality or a “it’ll do” attitude, would be better sold as a roller rather than have a combined esc/rx and save a bit more off the end figure or instead of designing a chassis that looks more home brew than a mainstream quality chassis.

if it’s anything like the outback of my daughters, god help them!

how do I come to this conclusion? Well in various guises and many hours of use in the ten years I’ve had them, the scx10 breakdowns can be counted on one hand. And many of the upgrades aren’t needed (more my personal pleasure).

although my wraith was a monster that used to eat spur gears for fun (rest of the drivetrain was all metal)

i too over the years, have spend, no, wasted hundreds if not thousands over the time in the hobby and come to the conclusion if you buy cheap, expect cheap!

I cant spend on the hobby like I used to for many reasons so everything NEEDS to last, if I had to buy spares every time I took a truck out, I guess the hobby would become tedious and would cause friction with certain ladies in my life.

so I save and buy the best I possibly can. Seems like I get shot down though for not buying cheap, I believe in quality and always will.

sorry if this offends or have offended anyone, this is my personal view from my experience over the years.

Ok, what did FTX do so 'great' in when making Outlaw and Outback? Everything but the electronics?
