  8. thanks for the replies. Some learning for me then. I will keep hold of them. Old hot motors like these seem like the sort of thing that will disappear in to scrap heaps very quickly if not retained and shown a bit of love and attention. All in the rush to brushless. yet they have more character than the handful of 1/10th scale brushless cans I have. exactly the same sort of thing that happened to all the early computers and games consoles. One decade ubiquitous, the next decade old and getting thrown out, the next decade people wake up and wonder where on earth they all went. slightly off topic.. but I will always regret throwing out (literally) our first computer - an Atari 800. We had an after market external 5 1/4 floppy disk drive with it that went out too. The atari was $1100 (in 1982), the drive was $1500! from memory it was one of Seagate's first products. A proper piece of computer history chucked into landfill

  10. They can fail quickly, but trust me as a long standing basher of Traxxas MTs, 1/10 bearings fail far quicker than 1/8! Savvy FTW!

  12. I do understand and can read quite well, my opinion is it would look better in Ferrari red. As long as he is a happy then all is good, no need to type like I'm thick though fella

  16. I think I need to 'brush up' on brushless motors before I plunge down that route. For now, I have ordered a couple cheap 3300mAh NiMh packs, a new carger, and the Tamiya Sport Tuned motor. Maybe an ESC will be the next step!!! Maybe even a brushless motor - but perhaps a newer car would be better for that! Thanks

  17. Well I would see how it runs first off but I would be expecting to have to remove the stuck pinion and swap it out for a larger one.

  19. Couldn't help myself, emptied my bankie of all the loose change I've been saving and what do you know there was enough to buy a black edition Lunchbox a 4600 battery, plus sealed bearings. So from two weeks ago never having owned an RC I'm now the owner of two and can't believe how much fun they are to build and run. Just been out with my twenty year old daughter to the park and beach and skatepark.Oh how the trucks suffered. Big chunk missing off of the front right hand corner of the Pumpkin. Easily sorted with some metal tape. Two broken body mounts on the Lunchbox. Ordered some black aluminium ones. A few scrapes on both but an hour of fun.Wish I'd got into this years ago.

  22. Yup, loads have switched back. The 5ive is a great racer, but is described as being a boring basher simply because it's too good. I'd have one in a heartbeat, but they're out of my range sadly.

  26. I've stopped wet-running due to bearings rusting and then failing, this causes other parts to then fail. Having a splash about is good fun though, used to do it a lot with my Slash 4x4.

  30. Just got back in from first run a run in the wet with my ascender my mate had my scx10, honestly the difference really is noticeable the scx10 is well and truly beaten here! Put them both side by side and run them and anyone will see the new boy beats the scx10 hands down. My scx is moded btw. No problems yet with shafts/pinion. If anybody's contemplating getting a rig do ur self a favour and get the ascender ????

  32. dog bones can only let the wheels turn so far until they reach their limit of usfull articulation, at which point the tendency is for the wheels to vibrate, usually up and down via the suspension as well as the steering axis, result being that on a race track you tend to understeer as the front looses its grip. with drifting i stops you putting on loads of lock as eventually (with a strong enough servo) the joint will just lock up these drive shafts have a much larger articulation range which lets the wheel turn further, thus stopping the unwanted movement. its done by using 2 joints instead of the one, while the over all turn is the same, each joint only does half of the turn each.

  33. I'm of the same type of background, I'd recommend an ECX car over a tamiya any day, far more durable, I've also had FTX cars if a kit is really wanted I'd go team C. HTH. Oh and traxxas are way overpriced, look up ECX boost over the bandit.

  34. Family's out at a church meeting, so I had an opportunity to wrench at the Raminator - remove the hexes in readiness to fit the newly purchased used alloy wheels, modified by a colleague at work to fit the LST2 driveshafts. All performed without major incident, in the Living Room, whilst catching up on the Free Practice for the last F1 of the season. Nico lost all Brownie Points for me last night by being a prat with his comments in the Drivers Press Meeting ... Some photos of the garage - needs a tidy up again .... http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/30930-garage-20141121-01/ http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/30931-/ http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/30932-/ http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/30933-/ http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/30934-garage-20141121-05/ http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/30935-garage-20141121-06/ http://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/gallery/image/30936-/ Finally, the work bench!!
