  3. To be honest...this thread was doomed from the outset.... I know what you are trying to say, but there is no real answer as to how you judge someone's 'ability' to judge a product. I've run a selection of engines, stock, tuned and what have you. I ran an Oddified motor in my MCD, and it was smooth, powerful and all round a very nice piece of kit.....but it was also an EXPENSIVE piece of kit, and was really wasted with the use I was putting it to. When I was looking to upgrade my Baja after the big end went sloppy, I used the evidence of my own eyes and ears. Mark was running an OBR headkit in his Baja, and it went well enough, was plenty fast enough, and since the price of the OBR headkit was within budget..I bought one. Now...for me...Mark invests a lot of cash in his Baja and tends to buy kit which is either top end, or well thought of generally. He is also what marketers call an 'early adopter' .... and will buy stuff when it comes out. Some of the stuff has been less good than the hype made it....and some has been as good. He runs it, runs it hard, and doesn;t pull his punches when asked if it's any good. That kind of opinion you can trust. The ones to watch out for are the ones who buy the shiniest and most expensive gear and then praise it without running it hard.Or worse still...praise it without ever owning it, running it or seeing it run. And as far as the 'red head in a Baja goes....I owned a red-head motor....and I owned a Baja....an no....I didn't mix the two. It was way too much engine. The Baja hasn't the grip or handling to use it. Would just become like those hateful DanA vids of a Monster Beetle with an 8Hp motor wheelieing endless round a field every time the motor hit the power.

  5. Yes. They don't make enough off-roaders. After all, they only do these: 1/16 E-Revo Brushed (#7105) 1/16 E-Revo VXL (#7107) 1/16 Grave Digger (#7202A) 1/16 Slash 4X4 Brushed (#7005) 1/16 Slash 4X4 VXL (#7009) 1/16 Summit (#7205) 1/16 Summit VXL (#7207) Bandit (#2405) Bandit VXL (#2407) E-Maxx (#3903) E-Maxx Brushless (#3908) E-Revo (#5603) E-Revo Brushless (#5608) Ford F-150 SVT Raptor (#5806) Monster Jam Replicas (#3602) Rustler (#3705) Rustler VXL (#3707) Slash 4X4 (#6808) Slash 4X4 Platinum (#6804) Slash 4X4 Ultimate w/TQi System (#6807) Slash VXL (#5807) Slash w/ TQ AM radio (#5805) Slash w/ TQi 2.4GHz Radio (#5803) Stampede (#3605) Stampede 4X4 VXL (#6708) Stampede VXL (#3607) Summit (#5607) On-Road 1/16 Ford Fiesta (#7305) 1/16 Ford Mustang Brushed (#7303) 1/16 Ford Mustang VXL (#7304) 1/16 Kyle Busch Race Replica (#7320) 1/16 Kyle Busch Race Replica (#7321) Ken Block Fiesta (Brushed) (#7308) Ken Block Gymkhana Fiesta (#7309) XO-1 (#6407) And the dragster makes 9. But yep, there's a big hole in their off-roaders they need to plug. More off-roaders please Traxxas, 27 isn't enough!

  7. I've decided that since re-building my ERBE, to reluctantly put it up for sale. I've owned it for a month or so. I've run about 10 full charges through it, then I broke it. I then rebuilt it with either Traxxas Original parts or RPM. I have NOT run the car since rebuilding it! Rebuilt ERBE in the MINTest of Mint conditions with the following: a) RPM True-track rear with the cool oversized hub carrier and bearings Traxxas Black Aluminum Toe Links: c) Red Aluminium pushrods for progressive 1 rockers up front: d) RPM front upp and lower a-arms x 2: e) progressive 1 rockers - big improvement over stock progressive 2 rockers: f) Custom Ken Block styled Traxxas bodyshel What you are buying E-Revo Brushless Edition - Not used since rebuild - Cost me

  8. Everyday you'll see things "bigged up" or recommended on forums along with "great advice or information". Phrases like well proven, best available, reliable or "I've got one, it's ace" are always being thrown about. Well proven to me has to have some sort of measure against it, tuned engines for example i.e race winning/finishing reliability rather than ragging the arris off it round a field - granted if there were 2 similar cars doing this then you'd be able to get some sort of comparison. I'm no expert on large scale cars but I've raced largscale for 10 years or so, on road and off road so I'd like to think there is some knowledge there that I can pass on. There are people on forums that do know what they're talking about and others that mean well but are just passing on information they've read elsewhere, that may well be lost in translation too and then there are muppets who know bugger all, will tell you everything and have never seen a decent car. So my questions are.... How would you know if someone knows what they're talking about How would you know if "product" are really good unless they've been well tested and what would you consider well tested.

  10. (5) BRAKES Brakes are a free area for all classes; cars must be fitted with a braking system that is capable of both stopping the car and holding it stationary whilst the engine is running. You must have one and it should really work - maybe it's something I can have a look at when you turn up.

  11. Yes providing it's safe, if for example you have an exposed pipe, get down to halfrauds and buy some body repair mesh and make a cover for it. BTW, no alloy bumpers or wings either.

  14. Now that's just plain rude! How dare you cast aspersions on the Montego and Maestro? I had both. The Maestro gave me arms like Popeye trying to control the torque steer when the turbo spooled up! Happy memories!

  18. It's all relative though isn't it, I want to race at a good level so I get what I consider to be the best gear. Racing isn't for everyone just like bashing but you can turn up to both with a basic marder and have fun.

  19. Another vote for the XERun, Racers may turn there noses up at them cos there not a Castle or Tekin, And put aside all the the racers waffle about smooth throttle response this, And inconsistent braking that, I think in the XERun you possibly have one of the best and most reliable ESC on the market at the moment, And with what Hobbywing is turning out at the moment they are going to surpass the Castles of this world in the not to distant future, Well they already have when it comes to reliability. There that good I.m after number 3, So who knows the cheapest place to get a 150Amp XE or EZrun Controller. Just one more thing, Don't get the combo you linked to, That is the old discontinued version 1, Which was known to smoke a wee bit.

  20. And here it is, finnished. Im quite happy with my first attempt with a clear body, dispite my brief Oh-shxt-i-picked-up-the-wrong-can moment. What started out as a standard blue 8ight RTR now looks more like how i want it too

  25. i look at the number of people using a product, usually a good indicator but my best friend is google, take the OBR engine i have ordered yes i was given advice leaning towards it however i used google and founds loads and loads of reviews, mainly from the USA that were all positive i then tied this in with speaking to people who have actually owned it. with regards to knowing if people are genuinely knowledgeable you have to trust your gut imho. well tested for me is real world so people actually using them, not manufacturers and youtube is a fantastic tool for this to gauge actual performance to the written performance

  26. There is another saying - if you do it yourself, you'll know it's right. This was the question asked "just asking because i dont want to take it out a ruin it first try lol" Unless you know the origin of the car i.e someone you bash with/you know him and the car - it's always best to go through it as the previous owner may have been a muppet.

  30. Well i have taken the plunge and just ordered two Savox SC-1256. This will relievew me highly as it currently has a tower pro for a throttle and brake servo :/

  31. Normally you only read/hear complaints about products or shops. I would just like to say thanks to Modelsport for excellent customer service. I recently had a savox servo(throttle) fail on my Hyper 7. It was only 6 weeks old and purchased from Modelsport. I returned the faulty servo and copy of the receipt on Wednesday and received a new replacement servo today (Saturday). Thanks again

  32. I have had nowt but problems with my Slash ultimate - when it runs it is good fun, however, I picked up a Losi Ten RTR last week from MS and can honestly say it is a league ahead of the slash in terms of grinability! Feels strong, is strong, handles very well, lower centre of gravity, shells also seems tougher.....I've given it some real hammer since Wednesday and have damaged one nerf bar, and that's cos I was a fool and tried to pick it up by said nerf, failing miserably! My only gripe is the TX/RX distance, as I'm not convinced that it is as good as the Traxxas 2.4Ghz set up For the money, I reckon the Losi IS a better choice; if you can get a kit, then as AJ has done u can create a really fast truck on a fantastic ready built platform and fit some nice Hong Kong Kit into it. Put it this way, our lass, who is not used to driving my cars by any stretch of the imagination, had a whirl with it yesterday in the woods and managed some fairly full on 3S bursts and never turned it over once. First time she drove m,y slash she was all over the place and flipped it constantly....

  38. i thought i see if my savage X wheels would fit my vorza last nite and they did i had to take off the side rails but im gonna cut the corners off and put them back on this week, but i toke it racing today and it was very fun! easy to back flip and stays on 4 wheels quite well! wheelies alot but i kept up with losi 5ive's today! just lack of lipos at the mo lol but was very fun with theses wheels! the shell wont go on either that nees cutting its the rear wheels that hit the shell and side rails but apart from that there good! love it like this!

  39. The specs awesome lol shame it's not a real truck.
    1 point
  40. Yes - but the range really only consists of the Rustler platform (Stampede, Bandit, Slash etc), Slash 4x4 platform and the E-Revo platform in 1/10th and 1/16th. Thats 3-4 basic designs - the rest are variations on them. Tamiya have vastly more platforms just in on-road! The dragster isn't likely to be XO based - its more likely to be a Rwd since there is little point wasting power driving front wheels that are up in the air!

  41. If you want a truck which is bomb proof and winning nearly every race it enters then there's only one choice im afraid If there was a slash vs losi debate my money is on the losi hands down
