not sure on the first 2, they look awful. Last one is good though

Doggy portrait!

Maybe crop a little more aggressively to get rid of more of the mud/grass ??

Now you got a camera, the trick is to get out places and take pictures of things and people. Taking lots of pictures will develop your eye and appreciation of what makes a good image as well as the technical control of the camera..

I will have to have a go at HDR when i get 2 mins, that is very good, i am sure i have seen that some where?

There are some belting places for photography around Leeds, might get chance to have a wonder round this spring.
