Inherited a RC. Help needed.

Chopper

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have recently inherited a HoBao Hyper 7. Wicked looking car IMO. It’s in really good shape and is really clean! I am completely new to this world.

Contents as follows -

RC car (all looks in good working order)

Sigma Eq 50 watt charger with multiple fittings/wires

Tamco 2100 mAh performance glow starter

x3 glow plugs & extractor tool

x2 litre of Byron race fuel https://mobdro.bio/ https://kodi.bio/

I am about to put battery’s into the car and see if the remote and car link up correctly check throttle wheels turn brakes etc. All the things I guess are your usual checks. I have been told it hasn’t run for about 3 years so I’m a little apprehensive.

Firstly how does this charger work? It has many settings which setting do I need to charge the glow starter?

Many thanks

Chopper,.

Welcome aboard.
No idea about your charger question sorry, ...when I had a nitro I just had a charger plug that jacked in to my glow starter from the mains without needing to adjust anything.

Try asking in the "Nitro" sub section if you get no help in your introduction.

Hi and welcome to the forum

As for charging the glow starter is there a plug like a nut ?

If there is that plugs into the glow starter stem and you could set charger to 0.5 to 1A if it allows to change settings

If the fuel has been opened i wouldnt use it to run engine if unopened it might be ok but prob best buying fresh fuel

The Hyper 7 is a good robust buggy :good:

well....if you were going to inherit an RC car to start with, you have lucked out and got a good one.

Also, the previous owner was buying good quality fuel.

Now....there will be 2 things your charger may be needing to charge. One will be the battery pack foir the servos ( it is the pack next to the receiver box. )

It will have a flat plug with 2 or 3 pins depending on whats there. The 2 pin ones are usually red, and go through an on/off switch ..... but black 3 pin connectors are also out there, often with only 2 wires/pins actually in place.

this is the wrong pack for your car ( yours will be a single row...not 3/2 ) but it shows both sorts of connector quite well. Just make sure red lead goes to red lead...black to black!

Your glowplug charger may be chargable from the same unit, as I know I have a charger  that does both. Has a bundle of leads to do all sorts, but I aslo have quite a few different seperate chargers just for glowplug igniters. I usually carry a couple when I go out with nitros....and for one truck...I need 2 to get both engines running. But thats a 'me' problem 🙂  Look for connectors like this:

which fit into the end of hte igniter. Basically...its like a glowplug in shape, and contacts the same connectors. If in doubt...they are only £10 with charger for something like the one in the picture, so maybe worth picking one up if you are really not sure about the charging or don't have the right lead. That way, you can charge both up at the same time.....and have a spare glowplug igniter,  just in case.

That said...if it was me ..... I would replace the servo battery pack and glowplug igniter as a matter of course, as they have probably been sat for 3 years decaying away and while they are fine to make sure everything is working right....under load, they may give you issues. Something like this .... should match what you car currently has

 along with

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/fastrax-1800mah-glow-plug-starter-with-charger-27758

won;t break the bank. Be sure to check battery dimensions....as larger 'C' cell packs look very similar, may have the same voltage....but are way too big!
