My first rc

Just a FYI @Nick new member with two identical threads that may want merging. :good:

@Chicko so many variables to consider. When you say off road is it dirt, gravel, mud, grass? You hoping to jump it, go fast or more sedate? budget? etc etc.

Something of a similar size (ish) to the Summit and price that is very capable off road on a variety of surfaces as well as being a great RC choice for beginners & experienced RC users alike is the Arrma Kraton 6S.

Something like that you could start to use on 4S initially and then as your driving improves and you want more speed simply upgrade to a 6S battery for more power.

A Kraton is probably the better RC BUT its in no way comparable to a Summit? You cant lock the diffs, drop the gearing with a flick of a switch and crawl over rocks at 5mph with a Kraton?

A Kraton would be a better choice than say a E-Revo, but if the slow crawl aspect of a Summit is the appeal than the Kraton isnt a valid option IMO

Again. Im assuming the OP wants the crawl type stuff as he has originally gone with a Summit?

Hi guys im thinking of getting my first offroad rc. Im looking at a traxxas summit, is this a good choice for a beginner?

I assume you mean this model:

As @Kpowell911 says, is a very polivalent rig, can lock the diffs and you can bash with it too.

Yes I know it's not comparable to a Summit for crawling duties but as the Op wasn't specific and just said for "offroad" that is why I suggested the Kraton as another "offroad" option. 😉

I didn't assume that he wanted to crawl, ...rather that as a beginner he'd just seen the Summit as a cool looking truck to offroad with. Hopefully you guys can help him out as I'm definitely not into crawlng.

I do know FTX crawlers seem to get some good reviews from owners of them and most of the 1/10th scale are about half the price of the Traxxas Summit.

This is what my original plan to get this one. Whats your thoughts?

I own three Traxxas 1:16ths, Theyre great BUT I dont think theyre worth their Retail Price.

Whats your budget? And what do you want to do with the truck? I think an Arrma 3S or a Rustler VXL would be better choices

My budget is £500. And i want to do abit of crawling / gravel. From what ive read the summit is not the best crawler but i am a newbie to the hubby and i dont expect myself to be good at crawling at first thats why i say gravel aswel best of both worlds kind of. Does that make sense lol

The Summit in your budget is the small 1/16th one just bare in mind. Its about the same size as an A4 Sheet of paper.

I know nothing about crawling, it really doesnt interest me at all, so Ill bow out now but theres some Brilliant people on here who know all there is about crawling and Im sure theyll help you find something 🙂

@Chicko I'd personally take a good look through the crawling sub sections on here.

Rock crawlers here: https://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/forums/forum/185-rock-crawlers/

Scale crawlers here:  https://www.msuk-forum.co.uk/forums/forum/101-scale-crawlers/

Then based on what you read/see in those two sub section try to figure out which category the RC you might like is most likely to fit into and then ask for help in one of those sub sections.

Like @Kpowell911 I know very little about crawling as it's not my thing but there are a lot of people on here who do and love to share the knowledge to help others. I hope that helps. :good:
