    I think you can put wider wheels, the unique possible issue is to use wider hubs.

    The best way to know the temps is to use a hand infrared thermometer.

    The NIMH batteries always get hot during charging process, but I think you get better results going to LiPo batteries.

    Sorry for the late post, the post brings me today this stuff: A tail wing for the X-Maxx, various upgrade spares for X-Maxx, an aluminum 1/10 servo adapter with the 25 spline double horn and steering rod and a harden steel imput shaft, an aluminum micro servo support for the TRX4. The las is a fan with heat sink for a next project.

    Mate, I have two Traxxas, the TRX4 and the X-Maxx, both are very strong rigs, very powerfull in stock, the spares are cheap if you know where find.
