120A ESC rated for 1/10 only. Why?

I have a deal on a Ezrun MAX10 SCT 120A  I wanted to get, but spec sheet says it's for 1/10 only. Why? The ESC in my 1/8 truggy is also 120A and it works just fine. Why would it not handle a 40xx motor if it's 120A? Is it just for marketing purposes? My motor is a 2200kv

Thanks for clarifying.

Some RTR 1/8 rigs come fitted with 80 or 100a esc's.  If it was me, I'd take the chance, 99% sure it would be just fine, depending on what motor you're running it with - you don't say what KV it is?  If its higher end of 40mm can territory ie 2650kv, then I'd prob just pony up for a quicrun 150a, but if its only a circa 1800-2200kv 4068 then I reckon the MAX10 SCT would be just fine, particularly in a lightish rig like 1/8 buggy.  Remember some 1/10 MT's are heavier than some 1/8 buggy.  Ultimately its your call though - don't blame me if your new ESC goes up in smoke 😁
