SamL
Hi All, Noob here, always wanted a fast RC car but never actually got one. Got bored in lockdown and thought I’d give it a go finally. Got a little boy (3) so that’s my excuse I bought a Corally triton sp brushed as it seemed to have good reviews as being tough and I’ve wanted a monster truck since I was young. Im really impressed with it and it’s been good fun but very quickly realised I should have gone with the brushless version. being a complete beginner buying an rtr truck I have gradually been taking bits off for cleaning and to see how it works etc. I decided to try and convert it to brushless (cheaply) so bought the GoolRC 3650 motor and esc combo from eBay for about £35. bought a 2S 5000 50c LiPo and put it all together. seems to be a few issues with it but had a test run tonight and all I can say is wow. I’m definitely going to smash it into a million pieces. The speed is unreal. The cooling fan doesn’t work and it seems to lose connection to the transmitter periodically so I’m expecting the esc will fry soon but looking forward to learning how to choose a better one and improve things like steering. sorry for the essay! SamL
Thanks all. Took it out just now and it absolutely flies. Esc got pretty hot without the fan working though. I have no reverse and it seems to be cogging a lot when starting off but for £35 didn’t really expect much. Will probably keep going with it until it does then get a better esc. S. are you using the stock pinion gear? i found this one https://www.modelsport.co.uk/rw-32-dp-pinion-10-teeth/rc-car-products/13770 to be a vast improvement on temps but i also added a fan as well motor im running is a 3250 kv on 2s.
