Check out the brushed, 2WD (not 4WD, they aren't quite as robust) version of the ECX Ruckus. That thing would go straight through a Rustler and out the other end! Im not so sure. Rustlers are very strong for what they are IMO. Id certainly have my money on the Rustler. theyve always had oil shocks, but think the XL5s have bushings at the wheels. I certainly wouldnt buy a budget brand over a Rustler/Stampede/Bandit. I genuinely think theyre fantastic. The issue with the Rustler VXL, is now it has the TSM, and nimh battery and charger no body wants, its £300+. A firestorm flux offers MUCH better value for money. Im bias. I had a Rustler KIT back in the 90s, I genuinely think they represent everything that is RIGHT about Traxxas. Just wish they wouldnt bundle them with a TSM radio and battery/charger. Sorry Guns, to clarify. It's the Tamiyas I was referring to that don't have oil shocks and bearings.
bertberr
Sounds like this 'new' version could be just for you then (GUNS that is)! No frumpy old nimh and rubbish charger, less than a tenner for full bearing set, and £45 for black can & HW Quicrun 60a esc. Assuming you already have your lipos and a decent charger, and this was around 160 quid mark in UK, you'd be into a BL Rustler for 215 quid. Not cheap compared to the budget brands, but other than a 2WD ECX, its probably where I'd put my money if I wanted a cheap(ish) 2wd 10th basher. Edited February 14, 2018 by bertberr . Ross9999992
All over everywhere I believe, not had to get any for mine though. Lots of the parts are shared between models as well which is nice
bertberr
Never had any probs getting parts for my 3 x ECX trucks, had some from Amain, Tower etc, some off ebay, but TBH they're so tough you won't need many, plus its pretty easy to get other manufacturers stuff to fit, one of the main advantages of a simple 2WD platform. RCbutcher
Im very suprised with my daufhters ecx ruckus but i hate its steering its a boat since making it brushless. But ive modded it some now and havent tested it well let her test it yet. 3500kv on 2s it goes very well wheelies are the best. Balancing it up rocking not over wheelied back down. That day she hit the metal railing fence 8x full speed and no issue i thought it was done twice going off the noise it made hitting the bars. I do wish i got her something 4wd though for the handling alone. Otherwise this cheap as ruckus has blown me away. Plus its cheap CHEAP goolrc £25 combo that thing really has blown me away. Idk about 3s but on 2s it seems like it will go all day. Its fan is as loud as my sc8 too no heat at all.

babylon
Well, 3650KV in a new, (Well had it a year but not used) ECX Ruckus stripped Idler gear within 10 minutes on 2s, What a joke, Don't know what purpose it's for, But it's not fit for this purpose. The thing is I bought this last Christmas for someone as a RTR, Was only £85 on offer, The silly stick pack was as good as knackered out the box, The all in one receiver/Esc went pop after about 15 minutes of run time, It was as slow as a growing mountain, So got a cheap brushless setup, Tried it today, And this happens, It's going in the bin. Sorry, Get back on subject. Edited February 16, 2018 by babylon
PraetoR
Don't just chuck it. My brother-in-law runs 4370kv, and has done for years. No issues. He has the mk1 with metal gear upgrade, which is very cheap and sorts out any gearbox issues. Edited February 17, 2018 by Praet0r87
bertberr
Not sure he even has a Ruckus...may be talking about an Amp MT, as the Ruckas has never had a combined esc/receiver...??? Anyway, my lads brushless torment is still running plastic gears, no probs, and full metal gearset is only 20 quid anyway. Right now, back to the UDR.... The UDR, you remember guys, the UDR...??? Tumbleweed blows across the screen...

babylon
This one, Sorry, You are right, Remember the receiver was in the front, That packed up after 10 minutes, ESC went pop when I connected a lipo as the supplied battery was poop and I only had Lipo's, Could say that was my fault, But what ESC doesn't support Lipo these days, This one apparently. Still not gonna throw another 30 quid at it, This is why to me I don't care about name or price, If it looks good I'll give it a try, Not much can be worse than this tat, And this is a name brand. Thought I would just clear that up, And yes, Back on track. With this Edited February 18, 2018 by babylon

Zannu
What are you going to do with it then. Surely it is worth getting a few metal parts (and ESC if that is needed) to sort the issues, and keep enjoying it. Or was it not that good when it was working either? Looked really good on Mike's youtube
babylon
I'll throw it on the pile and maybe get round to it another day, It all go's apart from stripping the gears in the first 10 minutes of installing the brushless set, Which is just unacceptable, That on top of the receiver, Battery pack and ESC is just comical, I'm just not throwing anymore money at it for now.
