Having you finished your Christmas shopping yet?

I need to buy a few more things but one is going to be really hard, I want to buy my youngest a PS VR but I'm not paying over the odds on ebay, this is an additional gift he has no clue about so may have to wait until Jan :(

Still got to buy something for the wife as well but that's even harder, I have no idea!

I've finished.

did it all online. luckily i only have a relatively small family and a Mrs that doesn't let me spend a fortune on her so I'm ok this year :)

The wife just keeps saying I don't want anything, like that's helpful to Me! :D

My Mrs says there's nothing she wants so it's perfume and bath time relax stuff.

My 6yr old has a ds2 moon gameboy.

my 2yr old has a berg biky balance bike.

But after paying for the bike we thought where's the brake. I think there's lots of hills in the village were moving to. just have to get her some purple Dr Martins lol.

or I'm going to look into adding a brake. if it's as easy as welding two bolts to the forks we can do that. My dad welds.

Can't he use his foot against the back tyre like I did as a kid? :)

Balance bikes generally don't have brakes, they are to aid balance and shouldn't be used in very hilly situations, obviously, as they have no brakes. Not that most two year olds would be balance biking unsupervised anyway, surely???

A child will learn that running full pelt into immovable objects hurts. A lot. This will deter them from repeating the experience and is a natural part of their self development. ;)

but having a brake means they learn that its there to help them stop.

as a kid my bike had a pedal backwards  brake, came back to the uk, jumped on a uk cycle and slammed into the back of a large 4x4, one bust leg and a week in hospital. turns out the uk had these things called brake leavers , i mean i tried to pedal backwards and nothing happened HAHAHAHAHHAHA.
so yeah i can see the point in adding a brake even if its just a slower and not a full on endo/ rear end locker. learn em young and you spend less time in A&E in the longrun.

prezzies, i just worked out its cheaper to go to bank withdraw some cash put it in a card and BAM its done. no moaning no complains  no fighting lol.
as for myself i grabbed a nice  Technigas Trek exhaust and had a little tinker with it ( now produces all the 100% power i paid for) , got a nice little 17.5mm racing carb with a few jets ( running superlean on the stock 12mm carb so the upgrade is highly needed) , ordered in some stacked decals, and started to write out my paint shopping list ( white primer-sparkle silver - electric orange - 2k clearcoat ) , also been looking for some off cut white leather to cut and sew a new seat cover with) , just gotta wait and see if the led running lights get a version 3 upgrade ( removing the strobe light effect) then i will grab soe of them in the boxing day sales etc etc.

as its for christmas the exhaust is already fitted and the carbs getting chucked on tomorrow ........... hmmmmm maybe i should get some winter tyres or some knobblies incase it snows :)

You'd have thaught so, except a quick look on you tube confirms there are still some adults struggling with the concept.

I just saw there's a thing going round social media to have a 4 present maximum, something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read. I couldn't do that, I treat my kids at Christmas time, they get books and clothes but more than 1 of something they want. how disappointing for the child if for years they had loads of presents and this year not a lot.

From what I've seen this is to fight against the commercialisation of Christmas.

On the news the average spend per household will be around £473 this year, we have 3 kids so I spend a bit more than that, I'm not gonna say how much more :)

when i was a kiddie the nearest to a computer was an atari console.

the closest thing to a mobile phone was a calculator ( trust me calculator in school you were a rich kid, most of us used abacus) .

there was only 4 chanels on the tv and no remote control.
holidays were awesome and there was usually snow on the ground meaning you stayed out from dawn to dusk.
cops walked the streets and rode cycles , you could always find a bobby on the beat wandering the estate or down the local slip n slides we used to create in the woodland.
schools closed only because the heating broke down ( that was fairly often to lol ) or the snow was so deep teachers couldnt get in.

Problem these days is tech, every kiddie wants a top end game console and a mobile phone with the latest ipad tablet.
they sit infront of 100+chanels of total rubbish on the sky system or tv freeview and dont even have to get up to flip a chanel. in our days you went out and lived life, climbed trees, made dens and just had great fun on rope swings and likes.
they wander the streets like little jawa's / sandpeople  on the hunt for ailing luke skywalkers or broken down droids.these days even the streets are not safe kids running amock with guns and knifes.
cops drive cars and keep warm they very rare walk anywhere, the old days you knew your local booby by namesake and he knew you. you would see them walking the beat in any type of weather.
schools still close not due to heating but the uk coming to a stop with  1/2 a mm of snow laying on the ground.

ask most kids what the meaning of christmas is the answer is getting gifts. most could not tell you how christmas came about either.

Less is more.

My nieces have, in the past, been bought so much plastic rubbish at Xmas, that they didn't know what to play with first, then, once favourites had been chosen, the rest languished in toy boxes until being donated to charity some months later....to make room for the next influx of useless, plastic rubbish they had no need of.

I believe by pandering to all their 'wants', many children are growing up into needy and selfish individuals, all about 'me me me' and 'I want therefore...' and parents are making rods for their own backs.

I was taught you can always ask the question, as long as you accept that the answer may not be what you expect to hear.

Fight the commercialism I say.....;)

And to add to this the vast mojority really is "plastic rubbish" even when comparing the same toy lines that I had as a kid to some of the toys that my kids have now.

I grew up with eagle eyed action men, the original star wars figures and vehicles, die cast vehicles including tonka and the like.

I don't recall even the plastic figures or vehicles ever breaking and they lasted years and put up with some serious abuse.

Plastic toys break within weeks now with moderate play.

Tonka dump truck lol, i used to ride mine down the woodland hills it was un-break'able .

action man 4w tank , yeah that to got the woodland ride on treatment and it still lived, sadly action man didnt stand up to the land mine. he lost a leg and a foot in the blast.
two firework bangers burried under a small bit of dirt. mine you he did stand upto the large logs getting thrown at him when he failed to steer clear of the tree in his parachute gear setup lol.

godsons, one got some cash to help with his driving lessons, the other got a bottle of southern comfort, there mum got a bottle of southern comfort to. am done with shopping.
loaded the freezer with 16 pork pies and 16 scotch eggs ( nom nom nom ) , got myself a new exhaust and a new larger bore carb for the little scooter. dumped the spray job candy orange idea, just going to flash it over with a satin black and satin topcoat ( no need to inform gov of a colour change ).

saving pennys for a Late christmas prezzie for myself, gonna take a few months or so, but i want to upgrade to a honda cub ( mid life crisis ..... no just old school love triangle lol )

I keep reading about your motorcycling endeavours and with all due respect and for the money you're spending on a "chicken chaser" you could have already paid for you're direct access.

I know you say you struggle on a geared bike, however a mornings practice and you'll have it cracked.

Best thing you'll ever do.

You don't have to jump on a thousand.

I did mine approx 10 years ago and have had a few sports bikes, couple of bandits, sv650 etc.

Now got a yamaha R6 5sl, you'll find what you're comfortable with.

Sorry to go completely off topic, just keep reading you're posts about pedro, upgrades and repairs and think to myself you could be fully licensed, kitted out and have a decent second hand bike by now.

Do it, you honestly won't regret it, even if you decide on a 250 etc !

Just looked at Honda cubs on ebay, my jaw almost fell off £1000+ for a decent one.

My dad had one in the early eighties, sometimes took me to school on it, never felt so embarrassed !

You can do your direct access for £600 and with the remaining £400 be almost on a reasonable second hand proper bike.
