How are you finding the esc chap?

i have 2 and my lad has 1 but only been fitted and bench tested.

also how's the shock towers and what brand are they please.

Hey mate. Loving this ESC!
Can't fault it at all. Took a good few runs out to find the perfect settings but pretty much got it as i want it now. Nice and smooth and silent. Handles submersion no problem and doesn't even get warm.

Shock towers are cheap unbranded but no issues so far

That's fantastic news, even on paper, specs are impressive and reasonably priced too.

this might actually be the new go to esc for crawlers/scalers.

thanks for the link mate, will have to try some out I think, some of the cheap stuff holds out better than the branded stuff I reckon.

I keep meaning to get a 1080 as well, apparently they're every bit as good as the 1060 with a bit more poke and lots of programmability.

I've got both. I think i paid £16 for my 1060 and £33 for my 1080 and the 1080 is worth every penny and more. Even if it was £60 i still wouldn't feel i was getting bad value.
1060 is great but the drag brake on it is a little fierce for my liking.

The drag brake can be also down to your motor, a brand new motor will bite that little bit harder, you've swapped your motor quite a lot so I'd imagine you've always run with a fairly fresh motor.

I agree though, it can be just a tad harsh.

I will order one eventually lol, out of interest where did you order from?

£33 is a bit cheaper than I've managed to find.

I got mines with the free delivery from Hobbyking. I was lucky and ordered them as soon as they came into stock in the UK warehouse but i noticed they're no longer in stock.

I've set my drag brake to 50% on the 1080 and it lets it roll down slowly on steep hills but more importantly the drag brake has a curve where it comes in gradually. So no more going fast then stopping and back wheels coming off of the ground in an endo. Nice, controlled slow movements. It's the 1080 i was using in that slow crawling video above on the 16k resolution and freewheel setting. Nice and smooth and silent.

That's good to know that it has a brake curve... I'll definitely set that to nice and smooth.

May actually do away with reverse as well, very rarely actually use it and it allows use of the brake much better without accidently going backwards.

Shall see when it arrives but I'll get one ordered.

I notice the 1080 has adjustable reverse. I have this adjusted on the TX with my 1060 and I find the reverse to be quite manageable. However now I've seen the 1080 it may be the new ESC for me. The d90 she resides in is quite a heavy lump too so I also dont mind the drag brake so much. 55t Kawasa crawler motor with many hours on it though so that may cancel out the grabbyness of it...

I'm geared very low on my rigs so that may be why. If i had any wheel speed with the 1060 and let drag brake come on, it locked up the wheels instantly. With the 1080 it gets a fully rotation and a half of the wheel to slow down gently before full drag brake comes on.
I use standard radios with my rigs as well.

I think if people are happy with the 1060 then no need to change but if you buy a 1080 and are disappointed, i'd be surprised.

I was pondering the lack of adjust-ability of the 1060 the other day. Funny i notice this thread now really... I do love the 1060 and i certainly wont get rid of it once upgraded. It'll happily slot into something else. Might have to build something for it to go in though.... lol

My tx is very adjustable, but what I mean with the reversing thing is if you brake, then let off, then 'brake' again, it reverses.

If I remove the reverse, I can let the brakes on and off going down steep hills as much as I want to :)

Ahh, i took my pin out altogether so now i have forward, instant reverse and strong drag brake.

I knew what you meant bud. What I should have added was that it takes a load of the jump out of the reverse so with a bit of practice you don't notice it.

Few more minor changes recently.

I installed a 45t GoolRC motor and 90t spur gear for 13/90 gearing.
Very nice low end control. Great for rocks but a little slow and take for the trails.

LRM_EXPORT_20170327_050040_zpsj3lgfogl.j[/URL]

I also put on some cheap, unbranded Chinese Ebay tyres and generic foams and took it and the new gearing for a 1100ft / 360m hill walk up a steep and challenging route.

I made it up all the way virtually unaided except a few "hand of God" moments. Took a few very bad cartwheels down a steep bank due to some poor driving decisions and ripped off my front bumper, stripped the alloy servo horn and damaged the steering servo. Managed to do some very questionable repairs and limped it the rest of the way up and down on 1 3s 5000mah pack.

I had a friend with me who doesn't like RC's much so we were at a semi quick pace and not as many chances for nice photos as i'd have liked.

There's a little water and mud as well before this

Some more changes...

Chinese Ebay stainless steel driveshafts (was concerned about small circlips at first, but solid 5 miles or so of abuse on them now)

Roof rack fitted to add accessories to help with the scale look.

Had an event with my local(ish) group where we had to attach a boiled egg onto our truck, and the first to complete the course with the egg intact won.

Wasn't me sadly!

Just been enjoying driving it recently with not much major changes happening

My friend who lives locally got himself an Ascender. It's only got weighted wheels and outboard shocks but it climbs well.
So well in fact, it made me realise how bad mines could be at times

Up until recently only my front wheels were weighted, but now my rears are also weighted.
The shocks were terrible as well. Springs too stiff and oil too thin
I got some 100mm internal spring shocks and filled them with 50 weight oil and played around with some different RC4WD springs.
End result is a truck that now sits much lower and is more stable but flex is still alright.

It's done a lot of miles with submersions, hill climbs, crashes and rolls end.
I found some worn parts and now i'm tearing it to bits to give it a good service.

One of my favourite places to drive now is here at Conic Hill. Literally drive the trucks all the way to the top. 1200 foot and done it a few times before servicing.

Decided to take things apart to re-grease and inspect.

First up, the trans.

Oops...
I did use a reasonable amount of Marine grease.
Bearings were alright. No excessive play and none siezed. Some WD40, a few Q tips and paper towels and not perfect but much better.
This time i'll put in a fair bit more Marine grease and inspect them a lot more frequently.

Some more progress

35t motor comm cleaned with eraser and came back to shiny copper again! Timing set to 6 degrees advanced (was 12 degrees previously)
Changed motor wires from 16awg to 14awg and from Deans T plugs to 4mm bullets
Running 16t pinion just now but waiting on 15t to arrive as i've went back to an 87t spur as the 90t fouls the spur cover

Trans is now filled with fresh grease as well

18519885_10155199108247368_4353753964805

Despite all the water, mud and miles it was actually pretty good inside but outer bearings had a lot of wear

So all new bearings, shimmed (0.6mm) pinion and lots of fresh grease.
New Power HD Waterproof 23KG servo fitted as well

Cool build, i weirdly also really like to see the strip / build / maintain pics as well... i think over the time ive had my SCX10 its spent more time in bits, having bits changed or just been tinkered with than ive actually run it... need to change that !

Mine actually started life as the same green shelled Honcho you have here. I bought mine 2nd hand with a new bright disco shell but the Honcho shell was battered so it has never took the shape of the honcho during the years ive had it.

Currently running a G6 jeep shell and quite a different spec to how it started... as these always seem to ;)

Thanks! I always try and take pictures of the stuff i do but i worry about posting it sometimes in case people get too bored.

I bought this a long time ago and it does have a lot of scuffs and gouges but it doesn't really have any distortion or cracks yet which is good

I've had to drop my 90t spur gear back to the 87 again as it was fouling the spur cover slightly.
Alloy chassis rails and braces fitted
Steering linkage position changed
Power HD 23KG waterproof servo fitted
Spektrum trx & Orange rx now rather than RTR stuff

First proper outing today after the rebuild with a few small changes. Truck performed fine but next time it should perform great

I've a few other parts on route and a lot more sitting around to fit as well. LEDs to run off of channel 3. Stainless steel axle tubes to make the heavyweight axles even heavier. CVD's. New wheels & tyres and a few scale accessories.
