I'm not suggesting you run it with the Trenchers, just wanted to see what difference they made to the look.

As it stands, I think it's epic. Can't wait for a running vid.

Swapped em round @chewbacca

dont mean to hijack but Noj, you saying the max5 would be better to use than the quicrun 150a?

If Guns chooses 8s and tbh, if going 6s in the long chassis, I'd still fit one.

Doesn't mean it's the right thing to do though ;)

For note, the max5 is about the length and width of a packet of 20 cigarettes.

that is huge! mine is only the standard size flux so makes sense to just use the quicrun

Have to say I was pleasantly surprised when the max5 landed...pictures don't do it justice.

I love the xl2, ours have been super reliable, I just wish castle had installed proper caps from the off to make them more compact...and a no spark and on/off switch..

Postmans been a bit random lately.... However today at 2pm, my motor for this turned up.....

Just a cheap black can. I love these motors. This is my fourth or fifth. This time a 1700kv as an experiment.

I also put up a new shelf to store the big guy, it doubles as a stand up work bench.

Three quarters of the way through, the postman came back with this?:

So I soldered up some EC5s and installed that too:

Just front end stuff I need now. A Servo (which is on order, an Alturn 33kg jobbie) and a Reciever which Ill prob nick from another model for now. Then we can see how it runs. Ill also need a Servo extension lead to reach the ESC to the RX haha.

Thought I'd take a look after you commenting and offering some reasoned thought on my thread.

This project looks awesome and as you have correctly pointed out to me taking a consider view and buying the right bits is giving you what we bee an awesome 1/5th scale Savage/Baja.

Keep up the good work, you're making me very envious but it great to read.

Started making a "shell" today, using 1mm Carbon Sheets. Considering its been cut with a Stanley knife, and sanded and polished by hand Im quite happy:

Not quite sure how to attach them to the TVP's mind?

Very interested to see yours. As I said in another thread, the one you bought was the one I was after, but we couldn't come to a deal, as I genuinely couldnt tell exactly what I was getting and what was needed.

  • 2 weeks later...

Everything is now here for it to Run... The 33kg Servo, and HD Servo Spring turned up today. However, the bellcrank bearings didnt. And I forgot to order Servo horn :(

I part fitted it, no point cause its all gotta come out again....

We are close. And we can see just how far out my electroics are!

I set everything up and took it for a spin. Fact is. Its awesome. The performance is amazing and it is so stable. The rear losese traction, so i dialled in a small amount of AVC and honestly, it drives perfect. Its fast and stable and has such a presence. Im considering selling my other R/C's cause I can only see myself using this one! The servo with the ballraced HD Bellcranks is perfect, effortless turns the huge wheels!

However..... We wouldnt be without issues. Theres ALOT of play and flex in the Hubs, amplified by the huge Baja Wheels/Tyres. Ideally, its going to need the HPI Suspension Conversion kit or similar.

As expected.... HEAT. I was on road for about 10 minutes. The ESC and Lipos temps were fine but the motor hit 75C. I knew this would be the case, but was hoping the lack of bodyshell would help. Ill drop a few teeth when I instal the HD Gear and new Slipper.

REALLY glad I done this now. Just need a way of mounting the Carbon "windows"?

So, I bought one of these.

http://www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=68620

Ive decided to mount it to my Fifth Scaler. Dont know why but for £25, why not? Im working night shifts but I managed to get a bit done today. I'm waiting on a slipper clutch so cant use the Savage at the moment. But I've started with the Carbon Sheeting that I had for the roof....

I've flipped it over and mounted the mount on the inside. Its double sided on for now, it will need screwing down.

The Camera is upside down, but Im sure there is an option either on the camera or post editing to flip the video 180 degrees prior to upload. Ive drilled four holes in the corners to mount with zip ties to the TVP. Not the best solution, but I couldnt find anything for Square TVPs. I will use black Zip ties once I am happy.

Should be very well protect there, just hope the angle clears the shock tower and radio tray. I couldnt power the camera up to see a preview as it wasn't charged :(

great spot for it.

so you are aiming to have the front of the truck in view ?

I can never see the point of videos showing the ground going past very quickly- it could just be a speeded up clip of someone holding a forward facing selfie stick (naff central) :boredlook:
