Popular Post Kpowell911 Posted May 13, 2016 Popular Post Share Posted May 13, 2016 Ive always sort of wanted a fifth scale Conversion for my Savage, and theres a fair few to chose from TCS, Alza even HPI themselves. However, Ive never got round to building one. I noticed a Savage Project for sale in the For Sale Area. It had an Alza Fifth scale conversion, and a few hop ups. It wasnt in the best nick, but was advertised as a project. I PM'd the seller back and forth but he sorta stopped responding.... Back to the drawing board. Another user was selling a brand new TCS Chassis kit for the Savage. It was quite expensive, and been as Ive not even used my recently converted XL Flux, It seemed a little pointless so I forgot about it. Then I got into my head a Scenario where I buy the Kit, and find a Savage Flux Roller in a month or so and go from there. I Was on holiday at this point in Ibiza (the quiet family part before anyone asks why I was on R/C Forums when Clubbing it @ DC10! lol!) I decided to make an offer on the Chassis and when I clicked the sellers profile I noticed he had a Savage Flux Roller for sale too, he also had some brand new Proline Badlands Tyres, Mounted in Beadlock wheels with the 24mm Hexes. A deal was struck and I came home to this... Everything is in VERY good condition. Its fairly dusty, and some screws have surface corrosion, but this may even be in better condition than my other Savage. Proof that every now and then you can get decent stuff second hand! I noticed it also had XL Axles (may be part of the Baja Hex Conversion?) Which I was expecting to buy, but has a plastic spur, which I didnt know came on a Flux? I may need a steel one. Other than that its a stock Flux He also forgot to post the extended dog bone, so thats on its way soon hopefully The plans pretty simple. Combine the 3 and add some electronics... More on that later.... I thought id knock it all together just to see what it looks like... Here is a standard Flux with Baja Proline Badlines, parked next to a FULL XL Flux on Trencher X's. And heres the TVPS... Combine the two... Stripping down seems easy now Ive done it that many times... Initially, I didnt think the TVP's were THAT much bigger than XL, then I compared them to stock TVPS... A bit of wrenching later... I didnt have a 24mm Wrench R/C Style so I had to go 1:1 Style... I didnt put the battery boxes on because Its gotta come off when the dog bone arrives... But With his lil bro. Kpowell911 Posted May 13, 2016 Author Share Posted May 13, 2016 I don't want it to be a monster truck, I suppose it's closer to a BAJA, Got my monster truck. This may end up with a centre diff, I really don't know, at the moment it's kind of a 4wd budget Baja 1/5th. It's weird it's like my Flux XL is too wide and this isn't wide enough haha. Combo wise, I've got a Quicrun 150 and a 1700kv motor to run on 6s for now. How that will be I don't know. I'm hoping Tug or Noj appear soon with some advice It may end up with a 8s set up, I really haven't thought that far ahead. Im a little concerned about weight. It will inevitably end up 8S Id imagine... I obviously can't run a shell, so was thinking of buying a sheet of carbon and making some plates to cover some of the flaps? I think I need to look at Baja's to see what they do? I'm not suggesting you run it with the Trenchers, just wanted to see what difference they made to the look. As it stands, I think it's epic. Can't wait for a running vid. Noj Posted May 15, 2016 Share Posted May 15, 2016 150a and 1700kv 'should' be OK for 6s, gearing correctly chosen of course... Tug built a leccy Alza based rig last year, can't recall what size can be used though..... He is known for trialing assorted cans and gear options which doesn't help Myself, I like headroom in an ESC...so I'd be fitting a 200a ESC and not maxing it out... The bigger the can and the lower the KV, less current is pulled.... The Max5 is a nice alternative to the castle xl2, bit more compact with a built in no spark and a proper on/off switch. Nice looking ESC, somehow it looks far more professional than the Castle XL-X. About £170 they are i believe? Need a servo too, nothing's in stock mind!
