Norcos losi 5ive

Carpmart - the turbine's now Wren's flagship engine - the DC100 iKero. It puts out 10.2kg of thrust, idles at 45,000rpm, & maxes out at 160,000rpm. It's starter motor is brushless (in that little aluminium cap you can see), as is its fuel pump. The electronic gubbins is called FADEC - Full Authority Digital Engine Control - & manages everything from start-up to shut-down.

All running gear has been removed, & has no brakes. It runs on normal paraffin, dosed with helicopter turbine oil (5%).

I've just bumped my original 2014 thread on this forum, for anyone interested in the jet car project. Apologies - it does ramble, does divert to the fuller write-up on Pistonheads - & any decent video will come when I meet up with Norco next!

It's only now I've listed it all I've realised how far from standard I've drifted lmfao

That hop up list is not 'drifting' away from stock, that's rocketing away faster than AJ Loverings rocket car! :D

Why buy a long block and esp head, you can buy a complete esp motor for less then it would be to build it from parts?

Thatis pretty much the spec I am going for when I get round to doing it.  I keep holding off as my km runs so good at the moment.

I'm only using the coil from a normal engine everything else is an upgrade so it's cost me about £80 less to build an esp longblock compared to buying an esp engine :)

Good stuff, I won't be going quite as far as you although I'm still in 2 minds over the type of esp head, torque or rev?

I had the same dilemma but went for torque as absolute top speed isn't that important for me but acceleration is so torque is more important. I'm still toying with the idea of a 9.5k clutch spring as well but I'm thinking that may be ott

Yeah, I have a spare head , piston, gaskets and plugs so I can do a trackside rebuild if I have to!

What part of the engine did you crack?

The part directly behind the flywheel. It's cracked down an entire side. Suspect it either happened or caused my flywheel falling off issue the other week.

May be worth looking at a billet crankcase for your new engine :good:

I suspect it's the exhaust that caused the issues as it's mounted to the fancover and crank case. Considering a Bartalone pipe at this point

Quick question chap, that brace that sits on your throttle servo, not sure what brand it is, also, can that be used with a stock centre diff mounts?

It's a rok armour brace and absolutely it was designed around the stock kit :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Time for an update after a small incident with a stock longblock I have built myself a 30.5 torque tuned esp championship ported engine.still in the process of running in however did achieve a good bash with a group of guys from on here car ran almost faultlessly aside from an issue with the linkage jamming seemingly due to the alloy throttle parts so I've reverted back to plastic and all seems good I have also fitted an electronic on off switch. Just waiting for payday to order my new exhaust
