Losi Trail Trekker Landy Conversion (build thread)

RC vehicles must undergo a minimum 6 months testing by the parent before a child is allowed to operate them. You can't be too carefull you know. He he

The chassis and shocks have cost about 35 quid. Bought the tyres and wheels about a year ago. Can't remember the exact price but they weren't too expensive. Got them from RPP hobbies in the US.

Wish Banggood would get a move on with the 1/35 trail truck. Real potential for a 1/24 Landy conersion.

That's looking really good :)

Like the scale rock face too, was expecting the articulation shot to be on the traditional paint tin!

Miss playing with these, best fun was building courses for them out of Lego but my kids getting a bit old for that now :(

Bit more progress. The body mounting has been sorted out.

At the front built a channel where the front cross-member slots into. At the rear built a locating block that the rear of the frame fits around and then used a small servo arm screwed into the block. The arm rotates to clamp the cross-member in place. The body fits on or off in a couple of seconds and no unsightly body posts. :hahadance:

DUDE ............. rephrase ....... John you must google/bing search the term " icelandic landrover "

the icelandic way of hauling up with oversize boots on the landy is epic, your body is missing one little thing.

well really its missing four things, the oversized wing flairs to cover the monster boots, its the thing that kicks the whole

body into automotive p0rn

heres a few images to wet your landy addiction some more lol ;)

gives you some ideas at maybe some scale'ish oversize wheel flairs to pop the body more,

i think number two with the flairs would be a perfect matcth to the trail trekker WB and stance it holds.

this is what i was looking at as a secondary to the willys jeep build a body swap from willys to icelandic snowman killer

You do know it's all your fault for turning it into a bit of a monster Landy don't you.

Going to fit some Jeep Rubicon flares. They look like bolt on flares so I'll leave then black.

An Icelandy......like it. Now what sort of Icelandic / Viking name should it have?

Made the first wheel.

Tried printing out a couple of wheels but not happy with them. Just weren't right so it was back to making wheels the old fashioned way. Had a couple of sets of the micro crawler wheels so decided to make one wide wheel from two of the standard ones. Put the two wheels on the lathe and widened one of the tyre bead seating areas on each wheel so the monster tyres would fit. Next removed the wheel centre from one wheel and glued the two wheels together and reinforced the join. Put the imitation bead lock rings back on and voila....one 1/24th wide wheel suitable for a monster truck tyre.

Now just have to do that again three times. Very fiddly job at this small scale. :shockingscary:

that Looks  great john

you can always add a light gray wash to the lower body areas mainly the splash areas and spray fan areas from wheels n boots.

add a bit of dirt and see if you can salvage some micro bits to spruce up the outer, few cans uptop a roll bag etc etc ;)

Yes it's nice but doesn't look right that clean. :whistling:

Not sure about using the roof rack shown in earlier pics, but it would give somewhere to put a lot of bits.

Have some suitable bits as well as a couple of boxes of 1/24 truck accessories that should yield a few useful parts. Also ordered some 1/24 stainless steel etched diamond plate for the top of the wings and along the bottom of the body.

look past the empty roof rack. thats why your in two frames of mind on it.

think rack packed a little, the bolt croppers n toolage on front of rack, rear of rack things larger like cans etc etc

dirt comes in dribs and drabs, most trucks get the cleanup while not in use, then neglected while in use.

i mean if it makes 300 bucks a day and takes half a day to wash n clean , meh 300 buck n a carwash lol.

and take into account most of the time they are up on the glacier crawling snow and slush- streams so they tend to self clean to.

caught in a white out they get cakes in wet snow and it itself cleans off dirt, its why they look so clean unless around the rear end

it can get a bit sooty/ smudgy,

and a nice thing, its white not black so any color laid in will take really nice a dark green will lighten a bit

but a slate gray will pop more. so your still open to body color change

looking more packed out on the roof space now so its more full.

windows, keep clear and see if you can add small parts to the interior

things like dash slope etc bits above the chassis and that could be seen from external view.

think top half interior no bottom pan worry

its looking great to,  let the model lead you place a bit on have a seat back and think as someone just glancing

not you the builder but you as a viewer.
