Rebel158
OK, slight tweak in my plan… I think all things considered I might go for the prebuilt Truggy, either the LC-EMB-TGH-AR or LC-EMB-TGH-LIPOR. I think my preference would be for the latter as an additional £15 bags you a Lipo and radio kit, which I think makes these look to be a bit of a bargain, and on paper do not appear to be miles away in terms of spec to the standard and pro kits (less the additional springs, motor spurs, and carbon upper deck included in the pro kit, which I probably wouldn’t make use of) That still leaves some money in the pot for some tweaks if needed, and no chance of me bungling the build, as sadly I appear to be a bit of a **** magnet when it comes to building things as they never seem to turn out right, despite my best efforts... Darren at DMS was also kind enough to come back to me with the following advice following my reply that I had intended to use this for more off road bashing duties, which to me makes good sense: For the use you describe the 35Amp ESC would do the same job as the 60Amp.. now if you was telling me you was putting it all in a heavier 1/10th or 1/8th car, then yes, 60Amp would be better suited, but you are only installing it in a much smaller and lighter micro vehicle. A quick look at the manual that comes with it will show you that it is 2 or 3S rated (as well as 4 to 9 cells Nimh) and although its constant current is 35 amps, is peak current is 210Amps, that is as high as some 1/10th ESC’s.. If you was running 3S and off road, you would also need to change the motor as well, since 11.1volt through a small 4500kv motor will start to make that get VERY hot and at almost 50,000rpm that is no wonder. A milder 3000/3500 kv motor would be better suited to 3S use without destroying the transmission. On 2S the 4500kv motor will top out at approx 33,500 rpm which it would be much more comfortable at. If I compae my intended new route, and comparing the base kit at £135 with the RTR Lipo version at £180, that leaves a budget of £45, and the RTR kit bags you the standard esc, motor, a lipo and radio gear. The ARR version (without radio gear and a lipo) is only £15 cheaper, so in my opinion it’s a bit of bargain all things considered to get you up and running. It also has a warranty out of the box, so if there is an issue related to the factory build, its covered.
champ222
It seems like a good plan. Ive given up for now. I'm still tempted by the LC12B1, but lack of chatter about it, and only one real place with a decent spares selection worries me a bit. There are loads of the EMB cars about, so even if the new parts dry up, there will be loads about as donors. The LC12 shares quite a lot of parts, but its not easy to work out which ones. DMS frustrated me a bit during conversations with him about the kits, he didnt seem to be listening that i wasnt interested in all the bells and whistles that came with the kit, but he doesnt have stock of what i wanted and was only trying to help. Briefly spoke to a guy that seems to run "pinky RC products" on facebook, but he hasnt come back to me with any prices or availability, so more frustration really. I'll shelve the idea for a while i think.
Ag100
Decided to swap the Hobbywing 10BL60 for the 120amp version, as I may try some speed runs, so removed the 60amp, soldered thinner gauge wires to the 120, shortened my servo lead whilst I had it stripped down, also moved the receiver to the top deck to give a bit more airflow round the motor.

I am just about to install the Bl60 on mine. Did it get hot when you were running it? or did you just update to bl120 to do speedruns? I was thinking of taking the fan off the bl60 so that it would fit the shell i have (the original). But if it was getting hot i wont. You car looks insane by the way.

It’s purely for speed run purposes, the 60amp never got hot and is absolutely fine, the 120 is overkill, but means I have a few more options for a bigger motor, but it’s a very slippery slope😀 if it’s the standard shell, then you will need to remove the fan, I ran mine like that before I changed shells. Rebel158
So, my Truggy kit is winging its way back to DMS as we speak, and I've decided to go for the prebuilt version (either RTR or ARTR) when they come back in stock. DMS have no brushless buggies in stock, so going that route with the conversion kit is out. Another option might be to go for the WRC road version, which from what I can is LWB, and then purchase additonal parts to convert it ie bodyshell, wheels, bumpers, mounts, wing etc Does anyone know if this is feasible and what parts would be required. Also, I note that the Buggy, MT and SCT appear to come with a 2840 motor, and the truggy a longer 2850 motor. Some research shows that they are both of the 4500kv 4 pole variety, but I wondered if there was a noticeable difference in performance e.g. torque? The other option is the Desert Buggy. Same smaller 2840 can, and the the rear shocks are mounted to the cage. I've looked at reviews and vids on youtube and all seem to suggest that its a solid little beast. Anyone have any thoughts? champ222
Hi All I think i may go with the LC12B1. I'll likely switch between a truggy for general bashing, and a buggy for speed runs, just for fun. I can get the kit with the 35A esc and, presumably, the red 2838 motor, or without for £45 cheaper. I have a Hobbywing Max10 combo. The motor is too big obviously, but i could use the ESC. for 3S, the limit is 4000kv for 1/0th buggy, which the truggy is really considering the wheels and 4wd. Therfore, i was wondering if i could go with a motor like one of these: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-xk2845-3650kv-brushless-inrunner.html?queryID=cb7dcf3d5ec30601745ce8b6f2ce98ab&objectID=40550&indexName=hbk_live_magento_en_us_products_hbk_price_stock_1_group_0_asc https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-xk2850-3580kv-brushless-inrunner.html?queryID=90ecfc508558d5712ab7f71fd2e89a9a&objectID=40553&indexName=hbk_live_magento_en_us_products_hbk_price_stock_1_group_0_asc https://hobbyking.com/en_us/trackstar-380-sensorless-brushless-motor-3200kv.html?queryID=144f6c72ddc737eed00f677432af2b18&objectID=47326&indexName=hbk_live_magento_en_us_products_hbk_price_stock_1_group_0_asc or https://hobbyking.com/en_us/trackstar-380-sensorless-brushless-motor-3800kv.html?queryID=144f6c72ddc737eed00f677432af2b18&objectID=47325&indexName=hbk_live_magento_en_us_products_hbk_price_stock_1_group_0_asc Does anyone have any experience with either of these? Thanks look at this... You can use a smaller motor with the Truggy, I ran a 5900kv 2845 racestar motor. They are about £10 from bangood and personally I rated it. https://m.banggood.com/Racerstar-2845-Motor-Brushless-Waterproof-Sensorless-5900-or-4370-or-3930-or-2800KV-1-or-12-1-or-14-RC-Car-Part-p-1112738.html?rmmds=orderdetail Shipped it was under £12 and arrived within a few weeks. champ222
Thanks, i'll check that out. I was meant to say, my idea was to shoot for a KV that would get decent performance with 2S for bashing, and good speeds from 3S, without wiping out the ESC/drivetrain. champ222
Another couple of questions: 1. What is the diameter of the buggy wheels that come with the lc12b1 emb-1h? I fancy some foam tyres for carpark use, something like the Contact tyres... the do 1/10 touring, no they never state the diameter because everyone knows right? And GT10 size, whatever they are, i think the state the diameter, but not the fitment, everyone must know that too, except me of course. 2. Do all 10th scale rear buggy tyres fit on the stock truggy wheels? Or do i have to be careful which i pick? Thanks

Thanks 1/10 12mm hex touring wheels with whay I have found best to have at least 3mm offset should be fine for the buggy, I have used contact foams but use the rally patrern style tyre now with a 6mm offset wheel to give a wider stance, for the truggy the 2.2 rear buggy wheels may need the extended axles because the offset of the stock truggy wheels is alot different to most of the 2.2 buggy wheels. I've got road tyres on 2.2 buggy wheels using narrow fronts with the 15mm extended axles on my truggy.

Some offset don't fit as they catch the ball ends, it's my personal preference to use nothing below 3mm offset as then I know they will with no problems, 6mm offset are even better I've found through using a lot of different types of wheels over the years, I buy mine from China most of the time and just wait for them to be delivered the same as the tyres, they are cheap enough it's just the waiting for them to arrive that is the pain really. Si. Ive measured the buggy wheels that came with the LC12B1 kit to have a 7.5mm offset at the rear, and a 5.2mm offset at the front, so 6mm seems about right for touring car wheels that are the same width front and back. 3 hours ago, Rebel158 said: Does the same offset apply to the 1/14 truggy by any chance? Ive just measured the truggy wheels to have an offset of approx -1.6mm Its hard to find wheels with the offsets listed. The truggy wheels are approximately 10th scale buggy sized wheels. Of the 10 or so buggy wheels i clicked on on modelsport, none stated the offset. even if there is clearly an offset on the wheel, still not listed. Ive had similar issues before, i got some new old stock proline truggy tyres for my 1/8th truggy, finding wheels for them was a nightmare! i wanted to know if i could find wheels before i bought the tyres, as they are all bigger wheels with low profile tyres these days. I had the part number of the tyres, but from that, i couldnt find the wheel diameter and width that would fit, nor could i find the width of the wheels on sale. It was such a pain, i got there in the end but i did end up with a set of wheels i'll proabably now never find tyres to fit. Considering how easy it would be for them to list list diameter, width and offset, rather than "fits blah blah blah", its very annoying. Even on third party wheel and tyre manufacturer websites, still nothing. As an example, i fancied some of contact RC foams: https://www.racing-cars.com/wheels-tyres/on-road-tyres/brand-brand=contact-rc/on-road-tyres-class=1-10th-touring/ 33 odd results for 10th scale touring cars. fronts and rears, so presumably wider rears. i will presume the diameter is as per a 1/0th touring, and assume a 12mm hex, but i dont know for sure. no offset information either. They couldnt be bothered to respond to my message, so perhaps they haven't a clue. its all so completely unnecessarily vague. Its like selling bolts without stating the length or the thread. Anyway, ive a new problem now, i dropped an E clip from the shocks. none in the "spares" bag (that would be too easy) and it seems they are a stupid size, so cant just by 10 for a quid on ebay. ...sigh...
