The XRay T4 2013 thread (Renamed)

XRAY dominated our last nights club meeting!

Top 5 cars gave an XRAY A final lockout!

I qualified 5th, finished 3rd.

I know I have the right car then.... err all I need now is the right set of thumbs and the right setup :xd::fish:

It was a very unpredictable race.  Twice the race leading car retired, 2 different cars out of the A final... Never seen that before!

Good, but for the wrong reasons, kind of.

I got 3rd but I didn't deserve it tbh.

But, as the saying goes... to finish 1st - 1st you have to finish!

I had a good chat with young guy who had FTD though. It was a nice nights racing and socialising :)

Can you tell me were you get your spares from? I ordered a rear belt for mine from mb models over a week ago and still I've not received it. It showed it was in stock on their site. I emailed them on Thursday asking when they were sending it but didn't get a reply. I alps ordered another from demon products on Wednesday and while he said he posted it Thursday 1st I still don't have it. Gutted really as it means I can't race tomorrow :(

I've always used future world models for my 8th stuff and been very happy with the service, but he's on holiday for 2 weeks. So who do you recommend?

I'd pick up the phone and get in touch with these shops.  I use both regularly and get great service from them both so I'm surprised you are having problems with them.

I wont be racing now until the end of may, by that time I hope to have changed the front diff oil to 30,000 or 40,000 and will report back with my findings :)

I totally understand why most people use a spool with rubber tyres, its one less thing to tune with lol.

As for foams though - a front differential is essential where I race.  I tried spool and it was way too aggressive.

I might try 30mm foams on the rear too but the bottom shock ball cups rub - 6mm rear hex adapters may cure this.

That's worth knowing Ian :)

I had a look at jacks car, and although we didn't get round to actually fitting a 6mm hex, it does logically look like it will fit and make sure the wheel doesn't foul on the shock eyelet.

I am keen to find out though as we both race the T4 2013 :)

I am reluctant to fit the 30mm foams on without some kind of spacer though, as I don't fancy binding up the transmission :(

u2yhepyb.jpg Rob recommended these for my t4 Got then on his car with 30mm rears let you know if they work when I get them in a couple weeks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited by Ian S

They were the exact same things I was looking at on the Demon website today but they were showing as out of stock :fish: lol!

If you can let me know that would help no end :) thanks!

one thing that did concern me though is that there may not be much thread left on the end of the driveshaft with a thicker hex.

Let me know how that goes.... :sweatingbullets:

Not sure what foam wheels are like but I normally cut my drive shafts down 3-4mm so there is only 0.5mm protruding from the wheel nut with rubber tyre/wheels fitted.  It helps a lot when the barriers are made from ropes.  But anyway I'd expect there to be plenty left after going to a thicker hex.  Another option would be wheel spacers.

I think spacers cause more of a problem than what hex's do.

Fingers crossed Ian's possible solution works as I race at the same club as him, also with an xray lol :)

I tried a spool, didn't like it. Im using a front diff with the standard kit supplied outdrives. (they come with a diff when you buy one too). They appear to be up to the job.

If this a gear diff up front if so where did you get it from

Crappy phone pic but meh... Been giving my T4 some love =]

Lovely looking t4 there. I've always seen motor fans directing air at the motor so I'm surprised to see your trying to draw the heat away. How effective is it like this? Have you done some tests?

That fan is blowing air on the motor not away.  It is always most effective cooling like this.  After all on a hot summers day do you stand in front of or behind a fan to cool down yourself?

I can see why he said that though as fans usually have its sticker facing towards the rear of the car, not to the front.

most effective way of cooling a RC Motor is placing is in between the ESC And motor. however most chassis do not allow for that except for the mi5 which is how i ran my fan, as long as the fan is not too close it wont be working much against natural air flow, too close however you create a vacuum of hot air, placing it between the esc and motor however you work with natural air flow

lardyda science n shiz.

i was kinda taken back when i saw the pic, xrays are usually orange, not gray n red haha

Yeah I don't like orange...  And I have lots of red screws so grey and red is what I'm going for recently.

I guess this fan is an odd one then as it has a sticker on both sides, perhaps because it's a 40mm.  Never liked the idea of squeezing a fan between motor and ESC, I never seem to have the room and they always look like they are taking hot air off the ESC and blowing it on the motor but I do understand it has a better chance of working with natural air flow.

Quite a long time ago now I did some testing with various fan and heat sink mounting and basically found the heat sinks to be worthless, sometimes the cooling was better without the heatsink at all due to better air flow.  I think a lot of them actually held the fan too close to the motor and I found a gap of 10-20mm to work best.

For the T4 there is an extra threaded screw hole on the layshaft mount so you can pop a grub screw into a servo mount and use it as a fan mount here which leaves the fan about 15mm away from the motor depending on the spur and pinion used.

Also I have a T4'14 in my possession now.  Not tried it or even prepped it but just comparing it to the T4 I can only spot a few difference, what am I missing?

Lower deck is about 4mm narrower

Front wishbones updated

Rear wishbones minor update (holes in them)

Suspension mounts ala Kyosho

Slight updated top deck to take central stiffener post

I'm sure I must be missing something and it does seem like Xray have kinda missed the point of the Tamiya style suspension mounts.  I always thought the benefit was in the steel ball ends and tight fitting hinge pins which allows the arms to rotate freely under load and not wobble on the pins.  Xray seem to have done something which looks similar but is instead used to allow for easier changes between toe and roll centre settings.  I already checked to see if Tamiya suspension blocks would fit but they don't =[

Has anyone tried both the T4 and T4'14?  If so, care to share your experiences and thoughts on the two please =]
