Popular Post -BEZ-
Well I guess its about time I share my latest speed project with MSUK Well where to start, i suppose the best place to start is outlining the goal of project chaser: My goal is to "chase down" and hopefully beat the top speed that the guys over in America are managing to achieve, the main target of this project is to reach speeds in excess of 150Mph. This is by no means a simple task and the lessons I've been learning with the DM1 speed project is its easier said than done lol. I have been working closely with DragRaceConcepts, MGM and Lehner on this project, and as it is currently its looking rather promising. My god there is a lot of maths involved in a project like this. The chassis is a modified Evo Extreme Dragster, the chassis has been tweaked to fit 8s lipos and a powerful 1930 motor from lehner. The chassis started life looking like this: The Chassis Its a very basic chassis kit and requires a lot of parts to be made by myself to complete it so she is ready to run. currently after a few mods its looking like this: There are still a few more mods to do, I have a wheelie bar set on order and some additional spares being made (don't you love imperial RCs lol) but its defiantly getting there now. When I make more adjustments I will update this section Update 25-02-13 Been having a poke about with the rear of the chassis and I have added a wheelie bar (just in case) worst case senario should make for a good make shift diffuser lol For those with keen eyes, you might have spotted the different tyres, more on them in the near future Power plant and radio gear Due to the nature of High cell count (8s in this case) and silly power required there was only one choice in my opinion MGM for the Brains and Lehner for the muscle. I'm running a modified 25035-3 MGM ESC with additional cap bank to cope with the silly long power wires required to the skinny chassis, also running a temp sensor attached to its blackbox to monitor the stress on the motor during the runs. After talking with the guys at MGM we settled on a Lehner 1930/7 HiAmp Carline witch had been specially wound with iron enforcement to help it run at approx 85000rpm for prolonged periods of time. Thankfully It has a 5mm shaft so it makes the custom mod1 gearing alot less hassle. The two main ratios I will be using this year are 4:1 and 3:1 both capable of pulling well over 100Mph. Radio Gear wise I will be running the same kit I run in the DM1: My DX3R Pro and a MR3000 receiver as I have found this combination to be more than effective range wise. Servo wise I have opted for a wing servo as they offer better mounting options and I dont need the steering to be strong or fast. I did a little mock up of the leccy kit laid out in the chassis: As you can see with the body mounted there isnt much clearance to play with: Wheels and tyres = info coming soon The Body - info coming soon There will be a bunch of updates coming soon as I intend to finish this for the ROSSA testing on 27th April.

-BEZ-
cheers for the comments guys, well price wise you talking losi 5ive money lol Providing all goes well the the development of the chassis there will be some videos of testing at the end of April. The main goal during testing is to get the chassis driving straight and true, all going well there will be a few runs over 100mph Then its fine tuning for the main event at ROSSA in August
Nick
Awesome, jealous of the Lehner. Be good to stick that in a 1/8th once you've had fun with this.

-BEZ-
Yeah I have been speaking to Tim a fair bit,I don't expect to be breaking any records this year, as the amount of time I have to run the car under the right conditions is only twice a year. The main focus will be making sure it drives straight then it will be playing with gearing etc. My main concern is finding somewhere smooth enough and long enough to get the very high speeds As I think Im going to be running out of space at the rossa site lol But Im in this for the long haul and I wont be stopping till I can beat some of the existing records set. Im sure this will end up being some mental mission to 200mph edit: Just for reference a speed is only official If it goes through 2 light gates and the RC comes to a controlled stop
arogon1235
why dont you put the dragster at the 1/4 start that would give you a big enough run up wouldn't it????
-BEZ-
why dont you put the dragster at the 1/4 start that would give you a big enough run up wouldn't it???? you will understand once you see the site in person
arogon1235
wait isnt it because the dragstrip is to sticky cause i've heard that someone tried to use it and it just got stuck to it
-BEZ-
wait isnt it because the dragstrip is to sticky cause i've heard that someone tried to use it and it just got stuck to it It was a lack of grip actually, you have to remember all that rubber makes for a slippery surface for a light weight RC. There is more to it than than, but you have to see the site for yourself
