I don't know what he used, but he was shrinking the heatshrink around the joints.

i think it was just like a hair dryer, im sure i have used one. that was handy though because im useless at soldering

it was a heat gun, good vid you found nick, you shold make it a sticky some where on the forum

1 thing he didnt mention is not too hold the iron on the wire too long, it causes the insulation to melt around the wire. And if you can use lead free solder.

I would add to that video. If you put some mole grips or something on the end of the connector your not soldering to it'll pull the heat off faster Does need an iron with fair bit of oomph though
