1/10 Unimog Build (SCX10 Chassis)

1/10 Unimog Build (SCX10 Chassis)

The body shell arrived from China yesterday. These bodies are made to order, but only took just over two weeks from date of order to arrive. Expensive body shell (about the same as a complete CC-01 Unimog kit) but fortunately avoided customs. Will be going on an SCX10 style chassis made from solid aluminium, not channel. Very solid to say the least.

The body panels are CNC machined from styrene plastic sheet and then hand assembled. Excellent detail and comes with all the small parts such as door mirrors, windscreen wipers, vents, windows etc. The only thing missing is an interior which will be necessary with those big windows. Lots of scope for extra detailing, and that bed cries out for some sort of load. Thinking of a scratch built Hiab crane for it. The Flashpoint tyres on beadlocks are the perfect size for the Unimog.

Lot bigger than the old Bodgit & Scarper CC-01 Unimog.

Equipment box underneath the bed has a sloped front, it's not the result of bad assembly.

The detail on that is unbelievable :)

Even at that price, it almost seems like a bargain. I can't believe I just said that but its true, especially with all the extra bits like the fuel tank, kit boxes, bed rails and roof hatch etc. Makes the full set Yota look a bit pricey really :)

When you think of the price of a 'yota or even a D90, this does look very good value.

Especially if you don't get caught by customs.

Impressive detail indeed. Thought the body was a bit expensive when I ordered it but now seems like a good buy.

First small job done.

Front axle assembled with Axial alloy hubs, high clearance knuckles, CVDs and alloy hexes. Fitted a Goteck waterproof digital servo with alloy mounts and made up a heavy duty carbon fibre steering link and arm. Like the way the steering link tucks right up out of the way.

Have you been able to make any more progress with this one yet? Could you give me a wheelbase measurement if possible please, I quite like the idea of putting one of these bodies on a Tamiya CR-01.

What with the house move this has been one of the projects that has been put aside and it'll probably be couple of months before I can get back to it.

Unfortunately it just wouldn't work on a CR-01 chassis. The CR-01 is a 1/12 scale and is tiny compared to the 1/10 Unimog body which is about 320mm wheelbase as well as being much wider. You can see the difference in size in the photo a few posts above of the body next to a CC-01 Unimog.

3racing did portal axles but I don't think they make them anymore but they are like hens teeth I've been looking for a set for 6/7 months now and still like £80+ but a lot cheaper than RC4WD ones
