jordanp
rather than waste money on buying lots of spare plugs..... i know diesel is a cleaning fuel but if i put the fowled up end of a spark plug in submerged would the diesel clean it and would it still produce a spark? just a thought
Rockhopper
You need a small brush ideally with copper bristles - Halfords sell them specifically for cleaning spark plugs.
marder
Use some petrol to help clean, I find petrol a good degreaser
goldman
One of the best ways is to blast clean,if you go on ebay you can buy a small battery powered blaster, thease are no longer made,i remember them in the shops years ago, never tried one,but I got a old unused one,it works well, they work off of a 12v battery,as in car etc, they were fetching a fair price ,don't know why,but does the job fine, just put in ebay search sparkplug cleaner. madmo
Hi mate I've used sand paper to get rid off the black stuff off a spark plug, has to be thin though. Then use a air blaster to get rid of any particles inside. Hope this helps..let me know if this is a bad way to clean spark plugs. Cheers

Rockhopper
It doesn't need to be shiny clean all over, just the end of the centre electrode and the face of the earth electrode. Sandpaper is a very bad idea as you eventually change the shape of the electrodes.
jordanp
exactly weve used diesel to clean engines before so wondered about the end of the plug
Drummerman
New plugs are less than 3 quid on ebay. Simple.
Nitroholic
Diesel will not clean a plug..... it will actually make it worse. The black stuff is burnt oil mainly ... and diesel won't shift burnt on carbon deposits.

Jim-Bob
If you need to buy materials and/or tools to clean your plugs with isn't that kind of defeating the money saving objective? A new plug will almost definitely perform better than a cleaned one too, so is it worth all the time and hassle of cleaning them when really they are intended and priced to be a consumable item? They cost very little compared to everything else largescale! James

Rossyra
I don't think anyone's upset mate I thought the whole point of having a discussion forum was to discuss
pando
Lol,ok lets discuss. You can get both products from a pound shop, then maybe when you've used them to have ago at cleaning plugs, you could use them to clean your crapper .If you've been in the hobby for a while, you tend to build up a collection of fould plugs I've bought 4 plugs back to life that seem to work just as well as before that would of other wise ended up in the bin.And as I run 4 large scales quite often is deffo saved me some money, and as they say every little helps
Rossyra
You could eat your dinner off my crapper it's so clean already I don't have a huge collection of fouled plugs, mainly because I bin them (nothing to do with the length of time I've been in the hobby or how many large scales I have) it not being worth my time cleaning them when I could be bashing or enjoying some other aspect of the hobby that doesn't involve a bottle of harpic I wonder how much money it would cost me in time spent over say 10 years if I had spent it cleaning plugs from four two-strokes over doing something tangibly financially productive? How's that for discussion?

Rossyra
Well, I can safely say I enjoyed it more than I would have busting out the Harpic if that's what you mean
