  1. A spring or a rubber band will never be able to pull a servo back to idle if the battery fails (give it a try and see!). All they are good for is if the actual throttle linkage were to come apart. Best way to stop a runaway nitro engine is to stick your finger through the hole in the body and squash the plastic air pipe just after the air filter.
  2. The thrust bearing works the other way around - if it makes a noise when the clutch pedal is down then thats the thrust bearing, if you can hear the noise when you are driving along then its some other bearing within the gearbox.
  3. Use a hairdryer to heat the glue, makes it easy to get the stickers and display off and you don't leave any residue behind either.
  4. NDOR is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am till 5pm, we'll keep the Sunday opening going until the end of the summer but we are open on Saturdays all year round.
  5. If you can turn your engine over by hand with the glow plug in then its knackered!
  6. Losi's always have slop in the suspension and steering. You can reduce it by replacing absolutely everything but then they don't handle! Many people will tell you that Losi's run better with sloppy suspension. I guess if you are just going to hack round a field then handling isn't really an issue perhaps.
  7. I wouldnt attempt to start my engine without pre heating it (it's had four litres through it). You waste fuel letting it warm up plus it's incredibly bad for the engine to run it cold.
  8. Lean is hot because the fuel is used to cool the inside of the engine, less fuel, less cooling. Exactly the same as in real cars.
  9. Don't charge it at 7 amps! Lead acid cells, especially gel cells don't like being fast charged. 1 amp will be fine.
  10. I'll be there most likely. Look out for me with the Losi and the horribly painted shell :-)
  11. I have to disagree slightly here. It's an almost new Losi 8ight with some choice upgrades plus it's got
  12. You need to measure the bore diameter then we can perhaps get an idea where that metal came from. I've never seen a engine seizure that's left the piston skirt looking almost undamaged like that one appears to be. Are the bits on top of the piston steel or aluminium?
  13. I got a kit from eBay, four weatherproof infra red cameras plus a DVR with remote control and all the cables. I think it was around
  14. It doesn't need to be shiny clean all over, just the end of the centre electrode and the face of the earth electrode. Sandpaper is a very bad idea as you eventually change the shape of the electrodes.
  15. Most buggies have a 125ml tank which will give you around ten minutes running time (less if you are racing). You have a bigger engine so I'd expect it to use a little more fuel.
  16. You need a small brush ideally with copper bristles - Halfords sell them specifically for cleaning spark plugs.
  17. I'm saying that the amount of smoke an engine makes is a poor indicator of its state of tune. Mine only makes smoke on initial acceleration out of corners. It's a Nova P5 running on Byrons 25% and it's running beautifully! If I run it on Optifuel Race it'll smoke like its on 60 Capstan full strength a day.
  18. Paint your existing springs if its only the colour you are after.
  19. Plus you'll never be able to accuracy tune a cold engine. Don't tune it just by looking for smoke either (or temp come to that), tune it by how it runs. You eventually recognise the sound and feel of a nicely tuned engine.
  20. You'll get bored with it after twenty minutes and never use it again (speaking from experience here!!)
  21. The springs support the weight of the car - If they are too "soft" then you'll run out of ground clearance. All the shocks do is controll the natural bounce of the spring (in compression and rebound).
  22. Yes we have mains electricity, a compressor to blow your car clean, proper toilets and the canteen. We are open on Friday (no canteen) and Saturday (canteen open) but there is a race meeting on Sunday so unless you fancy a go the track will be closed for bashing! Gates open at 10am, close at around 5pm.
  23. Heating the engine should be the first thing you do. Mine has had six or seven tanks through and starts instantly if its pre heated. If you don't heat it the box can't even turn it over! It's also not a bad idea to slacken the glow plug slightly then tighten it up once the engine is running.
