  1. My older cat has to have some dental work done, the vets have quoted £680 and conveniently my pet insurance won’t cover it….. The big Kraton will be going up for sale later 😔

Sorry to hear that chap, but yeah you should defo get a second quote.  Only this last week, a girl at work was telling me that her 5 yr old moggy had gingivitis, unusual in a younger cat, and her vet had quoted £750 for an op / meds etc.  Another colleague suggested she phone her vet about 3 miles away, and they quoted £280 all in.  So yes, do shop around.

      That sucks.

But, you certainly got lucky, ish. One of our cats decided to randomly get apathic, so we went to the vets - on a Saturday at 22:00. 41.1 fever, kept her overnight. Next day we get a call that we should come and pick her up since they can't get close to her (she's a domesticated feral), so on Sunday we did just that. Of course, we had to come back on monday, too, to check up on her. All in all, she was diagnosed with FUO (fever of unknown origin) that just went away again. Did i mention the drive was 60 miles one way? So we ended up driving 360 miles in those three days - and of course, there's the bill. We got charged £1900, which thank the bloody lord our insurance covered (minus £99 excess).

£1900 for one night stay, and fluids. That's all they bloody did, plus measuring temperature - the rest is "weekend-bonus" or out of hour pay. I thought to myself that i just should be a Vet working weekends, you'll make more than a private plastic surgeon.

Not quite sure why your insurance isn't covering it though, who're you with?

You're a plumber? One call out would cover that. 🤭
