    Traxxas Scaler Prototype

    Some interesting pics n specs doing the rounds;

    http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img169_27201771003_1.jpg

As spotted at the WEMU RC ScaleShop site in Switzerland, these pics show the prototype scaler that Traxxas is showing (leaking is more like it) at the Nuremberg show.

Land Rover Defender D110 body with lots of molded details, including fender liners. Expect Traxxas to officially license the body if they stick with the Defender.

Ladder chassis with steel rails, centered motor and battery, quick-release strap, nice. Motor is labeled “Titan 21T Reverse Rotation.”

Portal Axles - Note how the axles step down to reach the center of the wheels. More ground clearance, and greater gear reduction.

Note three mini-servos on chassis. Two are for locking the front and rear diffs, like Summit. The third is a high-low shifter? Or a center diff? Most likely high-low. XL-5 looks standard, but will probably get different programming–unlikely Traxxas would build a rig this trick and not set up the speed control with a crawler-strength drag brake.

    Specifications:
    - Steel Ladder Frame Chassis
    - Front Center Mounted Motor
    - Front & Rear Remote Looking Diffs
    - Two Speed Transmission
    - Portal Axle For increased Ground Clearance
    - Detailed D110 Defender Body & Bumpers

    Yours maybe.

I'm talking about the new one.

    Technically £899 I suppose.

Which has a metal one according to the above?

Which is exactly why I said, even Traxxas wouldn't put a plastic geared servo in a £900 vehicle (meaning an £899 vehicle :P

Just checked. The £900 8s model comes with a plastic geared servo. The metal geared one is an option part....

Have to say (no offense to anyone who owns one) that's typical Traxxas ripoff nonsense

Even HPI supply metal geared servos nowadays and that's saying something :P £900 for a £400 vehicle.

I like the idea of the larger scale, it makes it stand out from the rest :good:

It's not going to be the right size for all those 1:10 scale accessories. Well, it will be for all the traxxas branded ones that will come out.

I like it, body looks good and small details like the wheel wells to.

I may get one cover it in mud and stick it on the shelf.

The gears in those portals look very cheap and nasty.

Main gearbox looks well built though and it's got good clearance, got to give it those points.

I'd still take an RC4WD proper scaler over a lexan body.

It's already been confirmed at at least £499... But liable to go up.

I think for that I'd just go for the real deal... RC4WD :P

I was serious... But then again, it's Traxxas we're on about lol.

Who knows what will actually happen, the hobby is very much in the balance at the moment it seems.
