    Traxxas Scaler Prototype

    Some interesting pics n specs doing the rounds;

    http://www.tcphotos.com/getuserimage.asp?t=n&id=img169_27201771003_1.jpg

As spotted at the WEMU RC ScaleShop site in Switzerland, these pics show the prototype scaler that Traxxas is showing (leaking is more like it) at the Nuremberg show.

Land Rover Defender D110 body with lots of molded details, including fender liners. Expect Traxxas to officially license the body if they stick with the Defender.

Ladder chassis with steel rails, centered motor and battery, quick-release strap, nice. Motor is labeled “Titan 21T Reverse Rotation.”

Portal Axles - Note how the axles step down to reach the center of the wheels. More ground clearance, and greater gear reduction.

Note three mini-servos on chassis. Two are for locking the front and rear diffs, like Summit. The third is a high-low shifter? Or a center diff? Most likely high-low. XL-5 looks standard, but will probably get different programming–unlikely Traxxas would build a rig this trick and not set up the speed control with a crawler-strength drag brake.

    Specifications:
    - Steel Ladder Frame Chassis
    - Front Center Mounted Motor
    - Front & Rear Remote Looking Diffs
    - Two Speed Transmission
    - Portal Axle For increased Ground Clearance
    - Detailed D110 Defender Body & Bumpers

There also looks like some sort of plug, maybe for lighting by the mini servo? Steel chassis and alloy shockers on a Traxxas? I can see why this is suggested to be £500+ with the mini servos etc?

Is it me or do Traxxas appear to have got this right?! May sway me from being a traxxas hater....

Now that Ive said that, cue the 800+ quid price tag and snapping axles etc...

    Few more pics from FB

A lot of the 'trim' looks like it's 3D printed but the axles appear to be moulded

    Prototype parts maybe?

the more I see it, the more little details jump out, really am quite excited about this, to the point of a descision of this, scx10 2 or a rc4wd Toyota lwb hilux.

Apparently, it's pencilled in for a March release so mebbe the production bits hadn't set yet :D

The only issue so far seems to be the size/scale

    If that's a Slash...

I like the idea of the larger scale, it makes it stand out from the rest :good:

Completely agree with you mate if you just use it casually but if you want to do a comp, which class would it go into?

    this is where confusion begins.....

I'm intrigued, locking diffs on a live axle is something I've fancied much more than a two speed transmission :D

Guessing Summit money but on the other hand it's looking pretty sorted out of the box, I mean as well as the diffs it's got portals, metal links, metal gear servo, waterproof electronics, half decent 'scale' body, CMS, metal threaded body shocks, accessories, lights, the whole 9 yards. Ok, we don't know if that could be the fully optioned up rig but that little lot is pretty much a wishlist made good

Was toying with the idea of a bomber or SCX10 II but this could quite easily distract me....

Seems to be listed from what people are saying. TBH don't know if it'd standard issue or an option. Knowing them probably the latter, but it is available now - only took a lot of failures to get into production ... sounds familiar.

I don't think even Traxxas would be that cheeky, to put a crappy plastic geared servo in a £900 toy car!
