Come on you cant be serious? You cant compare owning the original NIB from 86, to purchasing the re release money spinner?

The only difference I can tell is a few decals and it will probably come with an ESC. Iff it's a collector bidding on it then I can understand, apart from that I don't see the point in paying that much only to stash it away for another 30 years. The only winner is the seller IMO. Shifting it on before the price drops due to the re re.

I Guess i dont get it. I get the appeal of owning the original, i get the paying a fortune for it and keeping it nib. I dont get buying a rerelease 'copy', especially if youre going to use it. Its just going to poor in comparison to an average 2017 kit, and theres not really a nostalgia value cause its not the original? I guess it comes from my main hobby Comics. I skint myself buying old and tatty originals (cause its all i can afford) when I could buy reprints in mint condition for a fraction of the price, but its not the same is it? Well to me its not lol.

To some extent I agree with Guns - if I'm going to run a 'vintage' car I expect it to actually be vintage not just a modern copy. I'm not against re-re's, especially as it means more spares for the originals but I'd prefer the real deal.

 

That said I'm not willing to part big money for what is after all an old car. All my vintage models were bought cheap and needed work - which to me is part of the fun. I certainly wouldn't buy a NIB original for top dollar because ifI build and run it the value is slashed, and if I don't use it I might as well stick a re-re on the shelf and save money.

It to me is an investment though. Theyre more than likely (hopefully) going to continue to rise.. its pointless sticking your money in a savings account (im getting less than a percent in my online saver and 4% on my ISA...) may as well wack it in a Vintage RC (or Silver age comics in my case).

True, but if you can't build it you better have the money for a re-re too so you have something to actually run! Not one to own a classic and not use it......

The only problem with"investing" in a NIB Tamiya vintage car is that when thr re:re: comes out the value will take a big hit.  Of course if the company making the kit has gone out of business a much safer investment.

Re Res technically shouldnt have an affect. Im not saying they dont, but they shouldnt. They should be completely irrelevant to the value of the original. If I was sat with a Sealed Orignial Astute I doubt id be tooo worried about a re re. I genuinely think its appaling Tamiya re release, but hey it seems the only way they can stay relevant.

I have never understood the desire to own old toys that cannot be played with. I can understand people wanting to buy toys they had/couldn't afford when they were young, and Tamiya cashing in on that. It's recapturing of youth, and the items do not have to live up to modern standards ( in fact....it's important they do not ) hence the old school electrics and shocks etc.

 

For me, I am not a Tamiya fan, and so do not have the urge to own these things unless they have something about them that excites interest. This however, is just ugly

Enough of that, Pre ordered  

Ive now joined (well rejoined) Tamiya Club because of this. Must admit that not as protective of Tamiya as Id expected (unlike say Traxxas, although I know TC isnt ran by the manufacturer), they slate Tamiya escs haha. Hong Kongs collection is mind blowing!

Got an email from MS earlier regarding my pre order. The expected due date has been put back from the 8th Feb to 21st Feb.
