  1. Managed to get the X2 break in complete today, ran the truck around at slow to moderate speed for a tank then upped the speed a bit for the next one then let rip with the last one. I must say the truck is superb the last tank was a blast running on wet tarmac had it power sliding all over the place. So far no problems no leaky diffs or anything. Well happy. Mark.

  3. Lordy! Ditch that plastic clutch carrier while you are in there. The KM alloy carrier is so cheap it's a no brainer. Then do the clutch bolt mod in case you snap the M4 bolt holding the pinion on. Instead of the bolt, you run the bolt through from the iside of the clutch and hold ht epinion on with an M4 nyloc nut. Needs a slightly longer bolt...but means if hte bolt snaps, you can just unwind it from the inside and replace the bolt. Otherwise...it snaps flush and you end up with a ruined clutch bell or a fiddly job drilling out the bolt. http://www.rcmodelz.co.uk/alloy-upgrade-parts/drivetrain/aluminum-clutch-bell-carrier-silver.html To undo a pinion...I use an old spur gear. Push it in where the spur and pinion mesh, so it contacts both gears. Locks them solid so you can undo. No damage.

  5. Well after doing loads of research i decided to buy a KM X2 so popped up to Blackburn this morning to first have a good look at one in the flesh and liked what I saw so bought one and a kill switch while I was there. Good helpful service from the staff at RC ModelZ who talked through some of the things that needed doing to the model before running it ie changing of the diff oils and making sure everything is tight etc. I won't bore you all with lots of pictures as we all know what it looks like but I will keep you posted on what I find when I strip it down over the next week or so. Mark.

  8. The odd thing is in the summer they would probably tolerate the noise if it was light and the weather was nice. In the winter when it's dark by 5pm it almost feels too late to start making much noise.

  9. You block the exhaust with it. You have 4 on each hand that do the job just as well.

  11. I picked an ftx ibex up this afternoon as a bit of indoors fun, I saw them about 6 months ago when I went in the lhs one day and the 'rep' was there doing a demo and I thought it looked pretty cool. (at this time ftx didn't have a name, price or release date) and I kept looking around for them and for people's reviews and could'nt find them until recently. Just happened to finish work early lol so went to have a closer look.... It's currently on charge :-D

  14. Just had a quick read of a few picco forums. I think you lsn may be lean. Most say the needle can be out 1mm or so on lsn not flush. Factory setting is hold slide fully open, gently bottom screw and the 8 turns out.

  15. Not 2s or 3s, but it is electric, a truggy, and ideal for bashing when the weather is doubtful: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/hpi-q32-1-32-d8t-truggy-tessmann-edition-rtr/rc-car-products/395721

  25. I use stock HPI foams ...backed up by a generous coating of Gorilla Tape. Tape the tyres....and tape the foams...and that sorts it. Eventually...the foams will break up, but they last a decent amount of time. Not tried many proline tyres in 1/5 flavour....but the Badlands that were on my first Baja lasted no time at all. The Hostile MXs I replaced them with lasted ages. ( just stay off tarmac/concrete surfaces )

  26. You wont have any problems racing the X2 at a national. Its about having fun not what you use. The X2 wont handle like a 5ive on the track im afraid as everyone uses different set ups so depends on diff oil weight , shock oil weight what tyres you run and so on. Come along and have fun, its a great laugh

  29. It's been a while since I updated this - been so busy with the party season and all! Anyway, in the last couple of weeks I've had a few treats turn up... Some Vanquish high steer kit (drag links, knuckles and c-hubs) Axial unis to get as much steering throw as poss GPM wide hex hubs (just in case the VP knuckles rub on the tyres (which I'm told WILL happen) Some springs for shock tuning 2 HR lockers - these were dead cheap and Banners tells me they work a treat 2 HR shackle mounts for use with my Wert bumper should I ever use it on another body I'll get around to installing them all hopefully before I go back to work in the new year. Merry Christmas peeps.

  30. Sounds like your lsn is rich, this will cause the bog and cut out as you try to start off. My advice would be to reset the carb to factory settings, very rich for break in, this will let you start the car and run it a little to get things warmed up before you start to tune. Read the engine tuning bit on here for loads of good advice. I belive the settings you need are hsn, the one fuel line goes to, flush with brass tube. Lsn is set by holding carb slide fully open then turning in the screw at the throttle arm end until it just touches the bottom, then turn it out 8 turns. This should give you somewhere to start from. You also need to get yourself some fresh 20% nitro, dont try to tune until your on the fuel you are going to use. The hot plugs may be to help the idle, hotter plugs idle better but dont tend to last as long. I prefer OS 8 for all my nitro stuff, thats just my own opion, others Im sure will say different.

  31. That's a few quid in the repair bill, I wouldn't of expected to see rusty screws and bits already though? Poor maintenance? Cheap crap fixings? Or both?

  32. For a young mind just getting into crawling and off road racing, those clones are perfect, even a twin hammer. remember everyone has a slash thats built like a brick crud house, kids grow into teens and teens into adults in time you guys will own slow crawlers n likes to. point is even if its a clone-copy its still a nice little gift to a young minds hands, it dont need no monster manba or some new fangled trackstar exotic gringo esc or a 40000amp 9s9p lipo with overcharger n fridge freezer assisted cooling computer charger. and it does not need a brca licence . i like my twin hammer it goes slow and it can go fast if i want it to and it does NOT roll over unless your to eager on the horses or stupid to huft that moster round and not expect those 1.9 inch doughnuts not to bite you back and throw you into a rock and roll cartwheel. sometimes its NOT THE MACHINE thats broken, its the Driver thats broken !!

  33. The stock motor might well be ok, we won't know until they've had a few good runs, although I don't like the cheap looking heatsink they've fitted.

  34. I would have thought it would be fine to leave the pullstart on. I had a MGT 4.6 a while back which had a pullstart and roto start shaft on the backplate and no problem with either. The only reason you would kill the ps is if you accidentally have the roto in reverse. Starter box is just a glorified roto so I say leave ps on.
