  3. It'll be expensive because its new and people want the flavour of the month - just check out the US forums where people are falling overthemselves to pre-order it. Doesn't matter about Baja territory as you can't run a Baja in places you can run this for example. Plus, the Baja is right at the end of its development curve in terms of engine and drivetrain design so its as cheap as its ever gonna be. This is new, fresh, funky and as of now, nothing on the market is comparable as there are no petrol 1/8th monsters, never mind RTR ones. HPI have the market to themselves and can charge whatever they like....and they will....and it'll sell like hotcakes. I'm betting you won't have much change out of

  4. As I plan to fit a side pipe, I recently purchased a 'fat boy' shell and side pods to gain the extra space needed. Up until now, I have only ever painted lexan bodies in a single colour, but thought I'd have a go at multi colour. I'm purely a novice when it comes to painting, but thought I would post my steps to achieve a result that I'm very pleased with. For the record, I'm using a mixture of Tamiya PS and Fastrax paint. These bodies do not come with an overspray film, or window masks which makes life a little more difficult. After cleaning with soapy water, I masked the windows with a mixture of fine line masking tape and insulation tape. I then went free hand and doodled a sort of bordered tribal scheme with a marker pen on the outside of the shell. As there was no over spray film, I covered the outside of the shell in liquid mask. I then sprayed on (from quite a distance) a light coat of metallic effect glitter, and masked up my tribal design using fine line masking tape. Next I used more liquid mask inside the shell to mask off the two areas of different colour outside the free hand design, leaving the design unmasked as this will be painted first. After laying on 3 coats of black for the design, I peeled away the liquid mask on the nose... I then painted this blue, with a backing of silver... View from top at this stage... I then peeled of the remaining liquid mask.... A few coats of bright orange followed by another backing of silver... Fine line trim tape removed... A quick blast over with a very bright yellow, followed by another backing of silver... Finally I completely backed the inside in jet black, and removed the liquid mask overspray film.... The finished result...

  5. i'm going through my driving lessons at the moment, i've only done 9 hours but i'm starting to think about the cost of actualy buying a car of my own. obviously insurance is going to be the biggest cost for the first few years but it would atleast like to know how much i'll be needing for after getting my licence, when ever that may be. so i was wondering what everyone else ended up with as their first 1:1 car, how much it cost to buy and insure but also how it ran and how much or easy it was to fix. thanks all.

  7. Bit overzealous with the HR over some big jumps! Very short (and poor quality) vid, second jump breaks rear bumper, lower shock-mount and causes both CV driveshafts to come out.

  16. Just took it for its first mini run... yes at half past midnight I work weird hours and couldn't wait till tomorrow after all this time. I love it. Its an absolute animal!! Full throttle almost felt like it was hovering.. its incredibly fast. Couple of niggles were: After braking to a stop or reversing... have to wait 2 seconds before it will move again. I flipped it and it revved two short bursts without me touching the trigger :/ Brakes are way to powerful... basically locks up with a touch of the trigger but can change this with the programming card. Other than that... beast! So glad I chose to convert it now

  17. Sounds like the pullstart is not properly engaging....but it could be other things too. Easiest way to find out is to take off hte backplate and have a look. Remove the pullstart and there should be another 4 screws holding on the backplate. Make sure the motor is pointing clutch down, and lift out the backplate. There should be a spring and a short metal rod in the back of the crankpin that engages when the pullstart spins to turn the motor over. If that is not in properly, you can get that noise. It's also possible the motor has self destructedas a result of hte runaway. You may find bits of shrapnel in there if the piston has cracked or broken up. Can happen if the motor has over-revved as a result of the runaway. You really need to open it up to check.

  22. Can i just add the sc will get dirt under the shell as it covers the wheels and you will need to clean out chassis more often, where as a buggy shell is narrower than wheels so dirt doesn't get flicked in nowhere near as much. And you will be the one cleaning it I expect. Not your son

  23. If you are not sure your 8 year old is going to like it, might you get lumbered with the second one. How sad!!! Given that this is the case, it might be nice to have something to complement your Firestorm, like a buggy or a sand rail. I'd have a look at the LRP twister. Really good value for money for a 2WD buggy and pretty tough. If you like the sand rail look you could have a look at the Kyosho Sand master, Great value for a real Kyosho. Both of these would be eminently upgradeable and are available for around
