Nick
Did anyone see the documentary on TV on the weekend about the Staffordshire War Monument that has been built? Very powerful and emotional program, really put it into perspective how terrible war is. Great respect to everyone in the forces and families. samij121
ok, so it basically gets recycled to provide pensions etc to the retired soldiers.

HappyLad
ok, so it basically gets recycled to provide pensions etc to the retired soldiers. Not pensions. Soldiers pensions are the responsibility of the state. There are large numbers of ex soldiers who don't get a pension for one reason or another. One of the jobs the British Legion does is assist them in getting what they are entitled to. Its not just "old soldiers" that the British Legion help either. They help ex-servicemen and their families from more recent conflicts, Afghanistan, Iraq, Falklands, Northern Ireland etc. Irrespective of views on any particular conflict, its important not to forget that service personnel don't have any choice as to where they are deployed. Society owes a great debt to those who are prepared to put their lives on the line to do societies bidding. Its a shame that society doesn't treat its ex service people better and that organisations such as the Royal British Legion have so much work to do.
