Maverick atom brushless conversion

So I decided to get back into rc about 6 weeks ago after having a baja 5b 10 years ago. I bought a Maverick Quantum XT flux for £250 with a battery and charger thinking I don’t want to go down the baja route again spending money left right and centre. Well here we are 6 weeks later and I’ve bought the Maverick Atom and yesterday a trx-4m. I’ve probably spent what the Baja would have cost me already with all the tools and greases etc.

anyway now I’ve run out of things to do the Atom I thought I’d show you all. Only hop ups available from Maverick are the oil filled shocks, steel drive cups, driveshafts and wheel axles. I’ve bought a Surpass hobby 30A esc/receiver, 2445 3000Kv motor, Etronix ET2008 mg 2.5kg digital servo and 1300mah 25c 2s battery.

I also swapped out the bearings and bushes for rubber seal bearings and shimmed the play out of the diffs.

I really struggled finding a 20t horn for the servo so had to properly modify the existing one.

the esc is exactly the same size as the original only a little taller because of the heat sink and the motor wires stick out more. I can just about get the shell back on but the heat sink is touching so I may have to take the little people out. Shame as I wanted it to look stock and if the button on the esc was taller it would line up with the hole too!

I have a quantum flux and that was an observation of mine too, there is a limited amount of upgrades for them, 1 i did too but was a waste of time was the alloy diff cases, they just didnt last

The atom has even less available than the quantum. I’ve just put the alloy diff cases in my quantum after chewing the plastic ones in the atom! I also got the HD shocks for the Quantum and still bent one.

thats also why I went and bought the Traxxas. There’s endless hop ups available for them!

An issue i kept on having was the sliding motor mount kept moving closer to the spur and kept destroying gears no matter how tight i put the screws, eventually i did sort the issue with an extra grub screw

So far on the quantum I’ve replaced 2 shock shafts, front diff housing, front skid plate, servo saver arm and today I’ve broken my second chassis, both at the front where it meets the diff housing.

Think I’ll stay away from the skate park in future!
