Popular Post Lone-wolf
So myself and @tomr are doing the MF01x builds, i have the Jimny, tom doing the Merc G320. I was gonna do a build thread but figure its been done a few times, i have nearly finished mine but run into an odd issue, nearside front wheel is canted over at an angle, been trying to spot if i made a mistake in the build but cant see it, i bet there are a few Tamiya builders on here that will know just what is not right
Kpowell911
Guessing the upper arms aren’t adjustable? Those shocks are maybe too long looking at driveshaft angle which could be throwing Camber off?
monkeyboy_uk
It looks like you have the steering knuckles on upside down. 1

Non adjustable arms and the shocks are same length as stock friction ones

Popular Post Lone-wolf
Pleased i got the front wheel alignment better, just needs a tweak on the steering links now, as a result of getting top knuckle right the suspension works a bit better, however i am waiting on some softer springs so shocks not fully fitted yet. Electrics are in, i have repurposed the HW40 from my FTX Fury, MG996R servo (12kg) and Flysky GT3 radio. I dont think i will use the supplied battery retainers (plastic shells with R clips) may use lipo straps or something similar, even rubber bands may work well. Body is trimmed and windows masked, i am waiting on weather to be able to paint it outside when it a tad warmer and dry (might be a long wait) might have to go with single colour as my masking skills are 💩 Me and @tomr are looking at body post brace idea`s, i am thinking M2 full thread metal studding with some nuts on, passed through the existing holes lower down on the posts. I see this being a fun trail car, not a crawler just fun to run on moorland footpaths, i dont really like kit builds and especially Tamiya but all in all i have rather enjoyed this build
Lone-wolf
It seems if you build this in the "High" ground clearance spec the rear dog bones are at risk of dropping out, so tomorrow i think i will drop it to the lower ride setting, only going to lose about 4mm of clearance and would prefer that to losing dog bones
Shergar
Keep it high and buy a spare set of dog bones Mr Wolf.

No, it will be little difference on the tracks i will run it so its getting dropped....found some slightly larger tyres that will make up for the lower ride height Edited December 27, 2022 by Lone-wolf
tomr
I’ll be keeping mine high if I ever get it built 😁 , I’ve not heard of them dropping out of the Escort rally car MF’s .
Alex97
There's some brace mounts on thingiverse, if you don't have a printer I'm happy to have a look at the file for you? If you go on the website and type in tamiya MF01X they should pop up, ultimately I believe there's already some after market options out there. I also have an MF01X that I built from spares, I'm just waiting on the final few parts to arrive. I locked my rear diff as I intend on using it as a rally car plus it helps it's when off roading. I used the M05 v2 carbon arms, they give you droop adjustment and should be stronger than stock. The wish bones, hubs and drive shafts are all the same as an M05, I'm running the M05 yeahracing CVDs as tamiya dog bones are known for binding when going to full lock. Edit - they'll also help with your dropping out issue. Edited December 27, 2022 by Alex97

Thats a kind offer on the 3D printing, i have seen them on thingyverse but i will stick with the M2 threaded studding mod as i have ordered it maybe tomr will take advanntage of the kind offer
Lone-wolf
I have lowered the chassis, i feel the angle on the dog bones is flatter now so less chance of dropping out, i have lost 4mm of clearance but this can be made up with larger diameter tyres (see silly example) the stock rims are 1.9 so i have ordered a set of 75mm diameter tyres that replace the clearance, also gonna see if i can get a set of CVD`s from yeah racing
Popular Post Lone-wolf
new tyres fitted and most of decals applied (fun), still waiting on shock springs, and stuff to brace body posts. Not taken front window masks out yet as i might tint rear windows with spray tint Edited December 30, 2022 by Lone-wolf

Popular Post Lone-wolf
Looking good @tomr and fast build. Here is my take on bracing the body posts, it has steadied them up and now the shell drops right in place its M2 studding with a pair of nuts biting against each body post
Popular Post Lone-wolf
Little MF01 has got dirty, had first little run with it and love it, did not think i would like a Tamiya as much, great fun car that goes well and handles good, will be better when i get softer shock springs, here is a taste for video up and coming

Lone-wolf
A little more to do on it, front tyres snagging arches a tiny bit, so gonna have to trim a little fat of them, Tamiya`s fault for putting dimples in the shell slightly in wrong place ha ha it will be better when softer shock springs turn up, and pleased that no dog bones dropped out so seems i was right to low build the ride height, have to say its a lovely little car to drive and looks sweet, shame the decals are a pig to put on but comes with the territory so to speak
Kpowell911
It’s impossible to not love a Tamiya @Lone-wolf theyre just a bit behind and over priced, but impossible to not find joy from. Tamiya are R/C.

I have tried a few and not been overly keen (TT02 and blackfoot) though my first ever rc was the Mudblaster and had a blast with that........but this MF01 is a game changer for me and thats after just one run, this was a cheap build as i had radio, esc and paint just needed the kit and bearing set at about £140, i would say thats a fair price to pay
