185 USD !!!   😲

Not that outlandish for a good hardbody?

Not that i'm loving the price, nor would i want one since i went from scaling to "proper" crawling, but $185 isn't that awful for a decent shell. Basically the same price as TRX4 replacement shells.

That being said, you're the guy with the Cross-RC AT4V, aren't you? Since you've built a few of their kits, maybe you can help me. On BigsquidRC there was an announcement of alloy portal axles by Cross RC, to be run in AT4/JT4 - for the life of me, i can't find them even on their websites. Any idea where else to look? Wondering whether or not they'd fit an XT4, currently trying to make my mind up between the XT4 and/or JT4.

These CNC aluminium axles were only just released last month so usually that means you can either order via AliExpress or wait 3-4 months and they will be available in UK and USA.  The Cross-RC website is notoriously slow to update so I'm not surprised they are not on there yet.  Greens Models is the main UK supplier of Cross-RC parts.  You could always contact Simon Green there and ask if he has them on order.  Other than that there are a couple of options on AliExpress.

The AT4/JT4 models have the portal axles whereas the XT4 uses the straight axles.

The part numbers of the portal version are 97401047 (front) and 97401048 (rear).

The part numbers of the straight versions are 97401049 (front) and 97401050 (rear).

I was tempted to buy the new XT4 but since I already have an AT4V I didn't order one yet.  Certainly I much prefer the hard body to the polycarbonate one but the XT4 is quite a bit more expensive than the AT4/JT4.

Cheers, makes sense. Since i don't seem to be able to find the axles on alislowpress, i'll fire Mr. Green a message, and see where that leads.

Before all that, what i'm mainly looking for is a description, lol. Cross-RC isn't quite clear in that regard - i'm trying to figure out whether or not the XT-4 is "just another" AT4 with different features, in this case straight axles/hardbody. Or, more clearly, i'm trying to bloody figure out whether or not those alloy portal axles fit the XT4. The reason for that is that i've already got a heavily upgraded TRX with Proline Raptor shell, so getting another one very similar to that (but not upgraded, like a stock AT4V) doesn't really add much to the collection. The JT4/XT4 shell would, though. But where we're driving, without portals, you're pretty shafted (from experience with my TF2 and Trail King) - meaning it automatically would make the choice between the JT4 and XT4 for me, if the alloy portals wouldn't fit. If they do fit the XT4, well.. guess i gotta roll a dice, kinda like the look of either to be honest.

Coming to think of it, i do kind of like the look of the AT6 too, and i'm sorely missing a 6 wheeler in my collection. Don't like the G-Class 6 wheeler, and the Hauler isn't very capable offroad. Hms.

It is always a little hard with Cross-RC to determine exactly what you are going to get!  I cannot confirm whether the portal axles will fit on the XT-4 or not but I would imagine they would as the chassis share a lot of similarities.  You could try asking Cross-RC in USA as they will probably be able to confirm.  I like the portals on my AT4V and that was one of the downsides of the new XT-4 for me.

If you are thinking about a 6x6, you might like to also consider the Yi Kong YK6101.

According to Simon, they do, so for future reference, the aluminium axles - as well as the stock nylon portals of the JT4 and AT4 do apparently fit. I can't not have portals where we drive, i'd get stuck everywhere and it wouldn't be enjoyable, so i was kind of disappointed that the visually most crawler looking crawler doesn't have portals, despite them being a direct fit.

I was considering a 6x6, i just can't find any good looking ones (that are worth having). Don't like the TRX G-Class, the TRX Hauler is awful in performance, the AT6 looks generic, the Yikong (cheers for the suggestion) does look decent enough but i'm not quite sure about parts/spares/upgrades, .. And i can't get a UMG 6x6 anywhere, which i'd only want the shell off of anyway.

So in the end, i'll be sticking to the JT4, that shell really is growing on me, especially after learning that it's actually a real body (it's a Jeep Forward Control).
