SkyRC e680 charger question

Hi all,

 

I've recently purchased a SkyRC e680 charger, however I can't work out the charging current rates. I've read the manual twice and watched countless Youtube videos, but can't find the answer to these problems.

 

For example, when charging, I've got the current set to 5.2A (for my 5200mAh lipo). But when it charges it, the current never goes above 3.3-3.4A...

And when discharging, I have the discharge current set to 2A. But when it discharges it, the current always starts at 0.4A and then eventually reduces to 0.1A...

Am I doing something wrong?

 

 

Also one more thing I've noticed, the charger charging the cells above 4.20v. I will see them go up to 4.21v or 4.22v - is this not dangerous? As a precaution, I set the TVC to 4.19v, but I'm still seeing the cells go over 4.21v...

The charger knows what the end voltage should be. Yet it remains on 99% with the cells at 4.21v/4.22v for about 15 more minutes, trickle-charging at 0.3A. Why is this? Can I just end the charge manually instead? The cells end up with 4.22v.

What size lipo is it? A 6S?

 

If so that chargers only 80w, doubt its powerful enough to charge a 5200mah 6S lipo at 1C?

 

edit: Yes you need at least a 115w charger to charge a 6S lipo at 5.2ah. Your charger is only 80w so 3.5ah ish the best youre gonna get.

Guessing itll be the same for discharging and the fact youre absolutely using that charger at the limit might be giving false readings. 
 

Ideally you need a better charger for 1C with 6S lipos. Id want a 200w charger at least personally.

Ah ok understood, yeah it's a 6s 5200mAh lipo. I was using a Hyperion charger previously which was 180w so I guess I am used to that!

 

Do you know how the discharger works? Is it a bank of resistors within the charger?

No idea about the discharger. Ive never used one I just discharge in the RC

Yeah watts law…watts/volts = amps

 

80w/25.2v = 3.17a (max for 80w charger)


25.2v x 5.2a = 131.04w (min to charge at 1c)


Simple maths 👍🏻


Overcharges because the cells are slightly out of balance (charges the pack to 25.2) and then spends that time at the end trying to balance the cells which is why it seems to trickle for a while. The more out of balance the longer it takes (I’ve never worried about the odd .01 and yes you can stop it early if you like, this is no different than using the “charge” setting).

 

As for the discharge….that energy needs to go somewhere…the charger usually has to disappear it as heat which is why it’s a hella lot lower current. There are no motors/bulbs using it up.


This guy was my most recent charger purchase. Has more than enough power for those 6s and is cheap for what it is at just £50 delivered 👍🏻
