Tamiya Blackfoot 2016 build thread

I have a Blackfoot heading out my way, it should be here in a day or so, i thought i might like to do a bit of a build thread as it will take me a while to get it built, i dont see any major issues as it should be a pretty simple build, though i am planning a one or two mods, i have already got a bearing kit and 12kg MG servo, i also have a bling item that i will save till later in the build and may consider better shocks, i have heard of a chap fitting SCX10 shocks and as i have new set coming for my FS racing i might just see if the old ones fit the Blackfoot!

I have wanted one of these a good while, and pleased its going to happen soon, this is a truck that will get plenty of use, mainly trail driving, some bashing, but it wont be a shelf queen, it WILL get wet, muddy and generally used lol...........

My very first RC was an original Mudblaster and had a whole lot of fun with that truck, pretty much same chassis but nicer body and newer electrics on the Blackfoot

Awesome! Can't wait to see it mate   These oldschool Tamiya monster trucks were definitely one of the golden era's of RC.

The last bit should arrive tomorrow, namely the BF kit, it has been shipped, i am very excited about this truck, i can see it taking pride of place in the garage

Okay i have made a start, most of the chassis is done, about to do a little more, will post some pics in the next update

This is most of the chassis, since taking this i have added the servo and working on the servo saver and steering rods

Not much progress but do have the 13kg MG digital servo fitted and centred, with servo saver and steering rods done, fitted XT60 to esc seems Tamiya suggest 2 different places to fit ESC, on side of servo or higher up, im thinking higher up out of way of water

A bit more done, front stub axles and hinge blocks fitted, 

   still not decided where ESC will live

what about a hobbywing 1060 brushed esc its waterproof so doesnt need protected from water

I kinda like the stock tamiya one and it can be made waterproof with conformal liquid

Gotta say i am really enjoying this build, i was tempted to build out of page sequence like skip to the body then drop back but sticking to the plans and enjoying it.

   Seems a well designed kit, does not have the vile play on the steering like some tamiya kits (cc01)

I may consider the yellow bus or the Dynahead next, but not right away, or maybe a lunchbox

The Pumpkin might suit you better it being a Ford body  i think lol

I was just getting it to build  had no plans after that.

Yeah I don’t know what it is but there’s something about building Tamiya kits that makes them just that extra bit special .........and addictive

And now we have a transmission fitted, along with ESC and RX,also servo cover with front body mount.

looks like the next stage is the rear drive shafts and then shocks plus wheels, that will be about it for the chassis, then it will be onto the shell

Forgive my ignorance...but that looks like a Frog chassis?  I thought this was similar to Monster Beetle, but never looked into that either, so that's prob got a Frog chassis too...🥴
