TB-01 Escort Cosworth Project

So as I’ve said in my introduction that I plan to build a TB-01 car with the iconic Escort Cosworth  shell,  I finally got ahold of what looks like a newish TB-01 rally chassis with the steel prop shaft.  As I was preparing this build in advance I won a steel prop shaft on ebay so I now have a spare if anyone wants it pm me.

I took of the wheel nuts to find the standard plastic kit bearings, no worries as can order a set for all 4 corners, this got me thinking about checking the rest of the car.  It turns out once side of the gear box was ball raced and the other had a metal bush in place so I’m going to strip the important bits. I’ll ad a few hop ups as I go.  I’m still unsure if I’m going to go brushless or not.  I’m not into lipos so if anyone can recommend a reasonable set up for this heavy chassis then let me know lol.

I’ll be doing a whale tail version for sure, I want to run the car as well,  so probably keep the shell for the shelf and get a spare for bashing. Then already looking to do a wrc on the XV-01 in time. Hooked again 😂

Yeah won’t be the quickest build as I know TB-01 parts are becoming scarce.  I still need to get ahold of an alloy motor mount at some point and a few other bits.  I missed out on one a few weeks ago apparently there was 2 on uk eBay 🙄. So will keep looking.  Have ordered a full set of bearings, turnbuckle set and rally tamiya block tyres and wheels for now.

These turned up today.  As I continued stripping down parts of the car I found some more bushes, glad I ordered a full set, I have a couple spare bearings at least.  Just seems odd that someone would build a gearbox with part bearings and part bushes.

  • 2 weeks later...

Small update over the last week I have been very busy with the wee one and various other things. I ordered some Tamiya Rally Blocks & Focus Rs wheels unfortunately they never turned ebay fails me again😂.  At least the seller was kind enough to refund me. I have put an order in with Modelsport and my parts are on hold as there’s no stock, but as usual they will email me as soon as the parts are on the way 👍🏻.  I’ve got a package waiting at the post office also 😁.  And these bits turned up the other day.

This also turned up today got a cracking deal on this on ebay, it’ll do for now as I’m having difficulty finding and alloy motor mount.  I will need to cut one of the alloy servo mounts as one side is shorter that the other but should get it to work to help stiffen the steering up if all else fails I have another mount on the way that’s a bit shorter so will make it work as they say 😂

Slow updates as slow progress with getting parts for this.  I can’t believe how quickly landl Models sold out of Cosworth shells.  Anyways I managed  to get one so not sure if I’m going down the Pilot/Tiger Stripe route or go modern with a Ken Block replica. Also I am struggling to get ahold of rally wheels for some reason the focus Rs wheels are nowhere in stock for over a month so I guess I was correct in saying this will be a slow build 😂.

What we thinking gents, Pilot Cosworth or Ken Block?

What Focus wheels are you after? 51021 are plentiful.

How about a Martini Cosworth?  Was thinking of doing one myself a while back.
